    Rugby Australia launch women’s competition

Good to see there's a WA team (unlike the women's sevens) although if it starts in March I don't know how it will affect the women's IPRC competition.

RUGBY Australia has launched a national women’s 15-a-side competition to kick off in March next year while it will also bid to host the 2021 women’s Rugby World Cup and the 2027 men’s Rugby World Cup.

Dubbed the ‘Super W Competition,’ it will feature teams from Queensland, NSW, ACT, Victoria and Western Australia over six weeks, culminating in a final in April.

Hang on a sec' as I put on my tin foil hat, whilst simultaneously balancing a chip on each shoulder - but wouldn't disrupting the IPRC have been the motivating factor in putting this competition together?

I don't think you need a tin foil hat to speculate along those lines.

I'd say RA are possibly bowing to external pressures or trying to combat the image that Rugby is being left behind as well as a middle finger to the IRPC with almost every code of sport having an elite level competition for women.

The NRL announced it was putting together a women's competition about a fortnight ago to start at 6 teams next year a week or so back.

RugbyWA must have agreed to it surely. By extension IPRC must have been OK with it assuming there are proper communication lines between the 2 organisations.

I will get to the RWC in a separate post.

In regards to the women's comp I say she had no choice as the girls need somewhere to go after 7s which doesn't pay much anyway. With pro comps in Cricket, Soccer, Aussie Rules and now League you wouldn't blame the girls if they took an offer there to be able train more frequently. Castle did mention in her press conference before it was rudely cut off by Foxsports that the RA has to move forward with Women's Rugby otherwise they will fall behind the other options.

The RA also has to get Buildcorp back on board as they pulled their sponsorship due to the lack of a women's NRC.

The IRB is putting a restructure in to women's Rugby and I can see with the likes of England pushing towards professional and I would imagine France will join them it will create a gap in standards between themselves, NZ and the rest. Canada played in the Women's RWC Final in France a few years back and going by the recent three test series against England there is now a massive gap.

The RA can say all they want about bidding for the RWC. They pulled out of recent bidding processes due to costs. They will rely on the Government to underwrite the extortionate bid fee. Given that they have pissed them off royally lately they will have to do a lot of sucking up to get them onside.

It cost FFA some $45 million to bid for the soccer world cup and most of that money went to bribing for votes of which i think we ended up with one vote. I don't think the federal government will cough up that sort of money again with all of the mismanagement occurring at the ARU. So that begs the question, where is all this extra money coming from for World Cup bids and a new womens competition? The ARU still has its claims of insolvency on its propaganda site and did just spend most of this year wrecking rugbys reputation and public opinion on the back of this claim. Don't get me wrong, these things apart from being publicity stunts to undo DeClynes annus horriblis, are good for Rugby but i can't see where the money is going to come from unless the ARU is not under as much financial pressure as they have painstakingly claimed, which is further evidence they lied to the public and the senate inquiry. Remember they claimed rugby would be broke by mid 2019 by keeping the Force but they now can afford a whole new professional competition for women featuring 6 new teams starting from scratch? Im not trying to poo poo these ideas as they will be good for rugby, its just my skeptical side is reading between the lines and im not liking what im seeing after everything we've been through.

They've cut a Super Rugby team whilst they get the same broadcast revenue for the next 3 years. That $18 million will solve all RA's money problems, because they will never have to bail out the Tahs, Reds or brumbies again, never mind the Rebels who are now 'privately' owned by Victorian Rugby.

Rugby world cups don't cost anything like the FIFA world cups to bid. There are fewer countries to bribe, for a start.

Yup, coz the voting power is weighted. All you need to do is bribe a couple of the old boy unions, voila! The Saffers bought all the pip squeaks, look how that turned out.

The successful hosting country for the RWC has to stump up a minimum £120 million to the IRB (AUD $150 million) to cover the hosting fee. Only Twiggy and the Federal Government has that money to underwrite. The RA have poor relationships with both parties.

Can't see the Federal Government underwriting any hosting fee's unless all of the Senate Inquiries recommendations are implemented.

Yep and given that Rugby is in a far worse state since the last RWC in Australia I just can't see how they can sell the 2 million or so tickets.

The women in this comp are not going to get paid! If it clashes with IPRC women will flock to Twiggys comp as they will get paid
