WA men's sevens named for nationals; James Stannard named for Dubai

    Western Australia Men’s Sevens
    Thomas Chadwick (UWA)
    Nicholas Chadwick (UWA)
    Eli Greaves (Wests Scarborough)
    Tyla Love (Joondalup)
    Brad Lacey (Wests Scarborough)
    Johann Louw (Joondalup)
    Walter Koteka (Wests Scarborough)
    Brody Eastwood (Wests Scarborough)
    Hugh O’Sullivan (UWA)
    Sam Barsby (Joondalup)
    Andrew King (Wanneroo)
    Jaylen Grey (Wanneroo)

Congratulations to all named in the squad. From a parochial point of view it's a shame not to see any Palmyra players after they swept the state series - I know at least one player was named originally but couldn't afford to go after the club's recent Asian tour so I assume others are in a similar position.

Meanwhile Chucky will have another go around in the World Rugby Sevens Series this season. He made his debut on the circuit in 2010, in between stints at the Western Force, and has kept abreast of the goings on this year.

    Australia Men's Sevens
    1.Lachlan Anderson, 7 caps, Eastwood
    2. Tim Anstee, 10 caps, Eastwood
    3. Lewis Holland, 31 caps, Aussie 7s
    4. Ed Jenkins, 51 caps, Aussie 7s
    5. Simon Kennewell, 9 caps, Randwick
    6. Boyd Killingworth, 13 caps
    7. Maurice Longbottom*, Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development Team
    8. Sam Myers, 28 caps, Norths (Sydney)
    9. Ben O’Donnell*, Randwick
    10. John Porch, 9 caps, Norths (Sydney)
    11. James Stannard, 41 caps, Aussie 7s
    12. Brandon Quinn, 5 caps, Gordon

Ah, so it's not a State 7's but an end of season trip for those who can afford to go?

    Even at 67, I wish i'd known.

Ed Jenkins is an ex-Force/Spirit player. I hadn't realised that Ed and Jono Jenkins are twins, rather than just brothers, though.

Jono Jenkins played for the Force, 6 caps. Ed Jenkins played for the Spirit in the ARC but not the Force.

The top premier clubs usually budget for these types of trips and provide everything including business class seats and match payments hence Wests having 4 representatives, I'd suggest the minnow clubs such as Paly need to open their wallets and be a bit more proactive

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Theoretically the men's sevens nationals are the only direct pathway to pro rugby in WA now, with the Force gone and the women's sevens series not having a WA team.

Jebus, based on their shit performance over the last couple of days, I'd be withholding match payments and cancelling their business class return tickets, Westie.

Interesting story I heard yesterday where 2 players were selected to go even though they didn't attend trial's ,squad is announced and trains as such and then on Tuesday 3 day's before they fly out the 2 players pull out forcing KK to pull in 2 players who were originally selected and then dropped to accommodate the 2 Paly players.

I understand KK wanting to take the best possible squad he can to get the best possible results he can but it makes it bloody difficult when he get's stuffed around like this where players all of a sudden make the decision not to go.

This State 7's team trained bloody hard for months for this tournament.

So did the Palmyra players before the Singapore tournament, and were far more successful, against far better opposition, than the "State" players.

So, and I'm only going on your bullshit anecdote and common knowledge, KK in selecting his players for his "State" team, selects 2 Palmyra players who didn't participate in any state selection process and were committed to play in the Singapore sevens and the KL tens, as he well knew. Those players, despite their commitments elsewhere, not least to their families, helped out by training with KK's squad, probably to pass on their skills and expose the state team to some quality opposition at training.

When KK decides to name his travelling squad, a few days before departure, despite his awareness of the Palmyra players' situation, and the costs, in time, money and suspension of employment they had incurred in participating in the Asian tournaments, and their actions in not putting their hands up for selection, decides to include them when chosing his team?

I'm sorry the 2 West players who weren't up to standard were included at the last minute, but that's entirely due to the way the squad was put together and handled, nothing more.

A simple' I'm not available' rather than pulling 3 days out before the team leaves would be a common courtesy thing I would have thought.

And a simple "I'm not available " was provided by their not making themselves available from the day they did not apply for selection.

Some people arrogantly assume too much.

From what I’ve heard the 2 player from Paly were 2 decent players. One was the top try scorer in the spring sevens series average 3 tries a game and the other has just been named by Sir Gordan Tietjens on a casual contract for Samoa 7s for 2017/18. Can some one please confirm this?
