Twiggy Forrest details plan for rugby comp

Andrew Forrest has laid out his vision for a new rugby competition, with the billionaire thinking big.

    JUST NOW

Mining billionaire Andrew Forrest hopes to have his plan for a new rugby competition rubber stamped next month.

Forrest has revealed key details of the mooted Indo-Pacific Rugby Championship (IPRC), vowing to fund a six-team league that will launch in either 2018 or 2019.

Forrest, who has been consulting with the ARU, is set to present his vision at a World Rugby board meeting on November 14.

What well planned timing. The Senate report into the ARU to be handed down the day before World Rugby Board holds a meeting in Japan. I am sure Mr Forrest will offer ways to help them sort the issues out.

And either would, at least in part, be during a West Australian Summer, hardly ideal Rugby weather. This is the main scheduling problem I have had in mind since they said it could not clash with Super Rugby. That time frame also suggests it possibly won't clash with NRC. The flip side is that matches in North Asia will be midwinter. The Kings and Cheetahs have home fixtures throughout Dec-Jan-Feb also. The Cheetahs even have one on Christmas Day @19:30 and Kings on Boxing Day @ 14:00. So it will be interesting to see how that goes.

It works massively in Twiggy's favour. He'll know by then whether he needs to tug his forelock and obsequiously beg for some crumbs from the table or walk in as the triumphant saviour with the only plan which will pull the ARU and World Rugby out of the fire, demanding that he will only do anything to save them if they agree to any of his plans.

I'm personally hoping for the latter.

So 2018/19 ill bet my balls we'll see hardly any of the previous Force players allowed to come back and play being a world cup year and all. Good luck to them all and enjoy Melbourne. Another shafting by the bureaucrats. Was there anything else mentioned at the presser or is that it? if shit doesn't start to improve pretty bloody soon they'll be playing to pretty much 2 and a dog. the longer this drags on the more people are losing the interest in fighting?

Only 6 teams? That's not much of a comp. I'm guessing it's going to be a short season as well. If you play home/away, that's 10 games and then what kind of finals do you have for a 6 team comp. You can't have 4 out of 6 in the finals, so maybe 2 plays 3 and the winner plays 1.

I hope this works and grows, but I'm pretty skeptical about it's chances.

i believe 6 teams to start and grow from there, possibly leave room for 2020 expansion...

I tend to save them in the picture gallery, copy the URL for it, then Insert image from URL
