Schoolboy Heavyweights to Battle It Out

    By Elliot Raiter

The Scotch College and Aranmore Catholic College rivalry will reignite on Monday, 24 July, as the two best rugby schools in Western Australia face off for the second time this season at Scotch’s Gardner Field beginning at 3.30pm.

The Scotch side enters the fixture in red-hot form taking an 11- point lead atop the PSA ladder with four rounds remaining, with the Swanbourne school looking for back-to-back Brother Redmond Cups.

Aranmore Catholic have long held the reputation of Western Australia’s premier rugby school with the college dominating the CSC competition for many years. This year’s team is no different, boasting eight Road Safety Western Force Schoolboys representatives in their side.

The two sides played out an entertaining match in April, with Aranmore running out 21-14 victors in a tight affair. The Scotch boys led 14-0 at the break in a free-flowing fixture, before a strong second half performance from the visitors saw them storm home to win by seven points.

One-time PSA winning coach Alex Wood will lead the Scotch side, while Pindan Premier Grade title winning coach and Force Schoolboys Coach Dwayne Grace leads the Aranmore team.

Get down to the Scotch College Playing Fields, Swanbourne, on Monday afternoon to see these two talented school side go head-to-head for ultimate schoolboy supremacy, kick off at 3:30PM.

92-7 ouch. Another reason why PSA and CSC need to play each other on a more regular basis, the standard will only get better and can only benefit those in a insular cocoon environment when they are exposed to proper rugby.

It was Aranmore's second game for the season because no one in Perth will play them, there are too many PSA people with ego's when they need to look at the big picture and realise that Little Johnny needs to get taken out of his comfort zone to actually make him a better player.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.
