    Olympics rugby sevens

Comfortable victory for the Aussie girls first up - 53-0 against Colombia. Bullshit crowd.

That is because it shouldn't be an Olympic event.

By your logic and this morning's crowds, bye bye hockey.

No - my logic relates to sports with their own regular tournaments throughout a year without having to have a "peak" at Olympics time.

You know, like tennis, golf, rugby 7s. Now you mention it though, hockey has a World Cup every year, doesn't it? get it out of the Games, I say

UNLESS It's only amateurs taking part.

    Why?
They should have the same rules as boxing used to. Once you become professional you're no longer eligible for Olympic selection.

It looks like many people aren't attending the early rounds of competition - probably for purely cost reasons.

Even the beach volley ball had very few spectators - and it's big in Brazil.

The Brazilian economy is in a sad state so it's understandable.

I honestly wonder if the time has come to find a permanent home for the Olympics. There aren't many countries left these days that can afford it. Put the money into making a permanent home in Greece, where the whole concept started.

And stop the hypocrisy of having Coca Cola and McDonalds as the major sponsors!!

Brisbane is talking about putting in a bid for the 2028 games I think it was. But giving some events to the Gold Coast (utilising commonwealth games infustructure) & I think something along the sunny coast.
Can't see it happening though for your exact reasons. It's too expensive, plus I've no idea where they expect to build a 100k seat main stadium.

Also - the waterways in Brazil are probably cleaner than the Brisbane river so they'd have to deal with that again.

The gender discrimination is what's killing the games. What has happened to mens sync swimming and rythmic gym??

The Pearls took Fiji apart and never looked threatened. Great attack and backed themselves in.

The following should not be Olympic Sports:

    Rugby 7's
    Soccer
    Basketball
    BMX
    Synchronised Swimming
    Golf
    Tennis
Beach Volleyball (despite the outfits )
    Table Tennis
    Probably Hockey as well.

Also to be fair if you want to boot out people for not being amateurs you would be cancelling the majority of events.

Really, what sports at the Olympics don't have professionals involved.
