The girls had a wobbly day two, drawing 12-12 with the USA in their final pool game, but still finished top. We now face Canada, who beat us in the final of the last World Series tournament, in the semis tonight.

The quarter final results were as follows...
    Australia 24 - Spain 0
    Canada 15 - France 5
    New Zealand 5 - USA 0
    Great Britain 26 - Fiji 7

I always find it interesting that teams which are so good in the mens, doesn't translate to the womens. It really highlights the gender in-equality in a real and understandable way. For me the biggest is places like Fiji, Kenya, etc.

If you get a chance, check out the amazing cover tackle by Charlotte Caslick against the USA to keep Aus in the game just before halftime.

    Tennis
Beach Volleyball (despite the outfits )
    Table Tennis
    Probably Hockey as well.

Also to be fair if you want to boot out people for not being amateurs you would be cancelling the majority of events.
You need to add Equestrian Dressage to the list. How in the hell is moving a horse around a square a sport?!?!

Under the Olympic charter an activity does not have to be a sport to qualify as an Olympic event.

Hot air ballooning, kite flying, fire fighting demonstrations and art competitions were once Olympic events

I think the relevant point is they were Olympic events. Pierre de Coubertin wanted the Olympics to be the best of human endeavour, so included lots of odd events (especially in the 1900 event in Paris) but most of them were discontinued fairly quickly.

Art actually stayed around for a while, until after WW2, and was stopped because the Olympics were supposed to be amateur and artists were considered professionals. (Brief pause for considering the amateur status of Olympic competitors today! ) These days there is a cultural aspect to the Olympic Games (the host city shows artistic displays from round the world) but it isn't competitive.

The amateur ideal was a myth designed to maintain elite sport as the province of the upper-middle class.

Rowing, equestrianism, sailing, fencing, ... , yeah, they've broken that strangle-hold, haven't they?

Semi is 1:30 AM with the final at 6 AM. No idea what channel unfortunately. The website / app may be your best bet.
