    New Coach Speculation Thread.

Former Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has put his name in the mix to take charge of Western Force after Michael Foley was dumped by the Super Rugby club.
Meyer, who is highly decorated in South Africa including a Super Rugby title with the Bulls, took a break from rugby after guiding South Africa to the semifinals of the World Cup last year but feels ready to return.
“I’ll definitely look at the (Western Force) opportunity if there’s something in the pipeline,” Meyer said.
    “I think there’s a great opportunity there.
“The Force have got a lot of good things going for them.

I'm not as against the idea of Meyer as I am Lancaster.
At lease Meyer mostly knows what he's doing.

Well were there is smoke there is fire I guess and the two strongest options in the media linked to the role are Lancaster and Meyer.

Meyer seems definitely interested in the role and has a shed load of experience at the highest level coaching the boks to 3rd in the WC. but we should probably remember that some provincial unions in SA actively sort to bury the dagger into him for his conservative style and preference for favourites. Lancaster, while he bottled it big time at the WC he does have better results with Junior teams and developing talent. That might suit us more where we are at this point in time.

So the Force boys win the 10s beating Meyers Pacific Dragons and all of a sudden he's interested in coaching the Force?

Nice one SNOB but that wont happen (Cheika being sacked for losing 3 in a row)
I would be very happy with Heyneke Meyer at the Force with his extensive experience of Super Rugby

The Western Force could do a hell of a lot worse than Heyneker Meyer.

    48yo
Has been Head Coach for >10 years.
Head and shoulders above Lancaster as an option.

    Meyer's coaching history as follows:

1997 - SWD Eagles (Asst. Coach)
1998–2000 - SWD Eagles (Head Coach)
    1999 - Stormers (Forwards Coach)
    1999 - Emerging Springboks - Coach
1999–2001 - South Africa (Forwards Coach)
    2000 - BULLS - (Head Coach - Bulls finished 2nd last with 1 win)
2000–01 - Blue Bulls (Asst Coach - Currie Cup)
2001 - Blue Bulls (Head Coach - Vodacom Cup Champs)
2002 - BULLS (Head Coach - Bulls Finished last with 0 wins)
    2002–07 - Blue Bulls (Head Coach- Currie Cup - Champs 2002, 03, 04, 06)
2003–04 - Blue Bulls (Head Coach - Vodacom Cup)
    2005–07 - BULLS - S14 Champs 2007
2008–09 - Leicester Tigers - ( Head Coach - 61% wins (lowest % 1998-present). Left for family reasons. Tigers won cup after he left (under current coach Richard Cockerill - 64% wins).
2009-11 - Executive role with Blue Bulls.
    2012–15 - South Africa (Head Coach) - 67% wins (57% agst Wallabies); 2nd TRC 14/15

Meyer helped lead the Bulls, who were last in S12 in 2002 (0 wins) to Champs in 2007.
He was coach of the Blue Bulls (Curry Cup) team during this period - so is used to developing players for success.

I reckon Meyer was hampered by the increasing SA quota system for black African players.

Meyer would be in a good position to re-establish links to Sth African players at all levels (if required in the short term).

I wouldn't count the performance of the Asia Pacific Dragons against Meyer.

He's shown that he's passionate/emotional about his team and winning.

Some corrections made: Bulls, Blue Bulls, Currie Cup. Vodacom Cup etc etc - very confusing.

Dale Grainger intimated in the Sunday Times yesterday Tai McIsaac and Tony McKee may be options, would love to have Taipan back on board in some form, maybe as an assistant with Hodgo and Meyer heading up the team.

I'd be happy with Meyer based on his Super Rugby pedigree.

I've had a good think about the Lancaster option after being pretty open about not knowing much about his history.

In the light of what Eddie Jones has done with (essentially) the same talent pool in less than a year, I would have to put my tick in the HELL NO column. The first test against the Wallabies might have been unpreparedness on our part, the second test showed a level of tactical skill that had been built into the players that we just don't have anywhere in Australia.

We should get Eddie over here, he'll be replacing Cheika before too long anyway won't he?
