Thumbs up Who should coach the Perth Spirit in 2016

Who know what Rugby WA will chose but here is what I think they should choose.
As the NRC is there to improve the standard of the playing ranks and be a bridge from club and academy rugby to Super and possible higher honours so then should we attempt this with coaching.

I will take the safe option and go with David Wessels as he is the Senior Assistant Coach at the Force. He doesn't seem to have a lot of Head Coaching experience mostly as an Assistant and Defence.

Next is Steve Anderson - Future Force Academy. With Future Force numbers up to 10 then his input would be vital. Unfortunately another Defence specialist.

Then the Nedlands coach making his way in Luke Doherty. This spot should be reserved for the reigning Pindan Premiership Coach.

However what is wanted is a Scrum Coach. Vikings had Dan Palmer who took his talents to the Brumbies.

The Spirit should be creative and approach the owners ARU and see if Mario Ledesma could be over West for a week. If so load him up to assist the Perth Spirit Scrum for a few days. Also have him do some specialist coaching for the Senior coaches in WA and he use the Perth Spirit Scrum as his teaching tools.

What role Foley. If he remains as Head Coach for the Force in 2017 then he can be the coaching mentor.

Strength and Conditioning would to use the Force.

I would like to see the WA equivalent to the Ballymore Kid where Junior Laloifli gets an EPS contract but there may be a shortage of non Super and Future Force players.

I open this up to advice.

My personal opinion is that the Spirit should be run as an extension of the clubs, not of the Force. They should be functionally independent under RWA and encouraged to play the game that suits their competition, not looking at it as a training exercise for the benefit of the Force. I wouldn't rule out using some of the assistant coaches, but I'd make it clear that they are expected to deliver results rather than toe someone else's line. That won't wash if they were put in charge of a SR team, so what are they actually learning if that is how they work?

I vote Foley to have absolute and total control.
Token coaches can be appointed but they are not to question any of the decisions he makes nor are they to be approachable and knowledgable or they will be MaCissaced out the door.
Because the Spirit finished a very creditable sixth placing the Force are now reaping the benefits of the outside the square thinking that Foles instigated.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.
