    The arrogance of Rugby Union

Well here is what really sh*ts me about this whole saga.
Professional Rugby Union is financially and in popularity is a rudderless ship, actually it may be worse, rudderless and the mast/engine has broken. It has no direction and is going nowhere, is being tossed around seemingly just waiting for the right combination of waves to capsize the damn thing and put it out of it's misery. For the last ten years it has had no coherent plan, just glib empty platitudes like the crowds will come if we just win. It really isn't sure which products it wants to make money out of, is it the Wallabies or the Super Rugby teams (Oh, silly me it's actually the Shute Shield teams). Every bloody man, woman and there dog now has some genius plan for how if they just change this one little thing all of the problems can be solved. This is all just such bullshit.

Over on G&GR the amount of crap from armchair experts staggers me. Every Aussie Super Rugby team is struggling financially, yet the Force is the great problem? Administrators that have only ever demonstrated their ability to lose money are still held up to have some wonderful insight into what will make money?

When will people ever be honest enough to say that they don't know the answer?

If the ARU takes over, might be good news for Richard Graham...

Indeed. A new arena for the Wildcats and tennis while the Entertainment Centre was still in existence; a new "multi-purpose" stadium for AFL while Subiaco is still in existence. A pittance for rugby, soccer and rugby league while we were playing at a WAFL ground with temporary seating. I can see why the ARU are sceptical about the WA government.

Disclaimer: Yes I acknowledge that the Entertainment Centre and Subiaco were/are past their use-by dates in some way; but at the very least, they were usable, well-appointed venues specifically suited to their sports. The rectangular codes didn't even have a proper stadium, we had temporary stands and toilets at an old WAFL ground

Japan and the Pacific Islands for Aussie Super 9's!

Let's have one of these in WA! Click this link: Saitama Super Arena - New Perth Stadium?

Barnett did come good on his upgrade of NIB.. IMO the Eastern stand is second to none for viewing Rugby and Soccer, so I don't think we can't complain on that front

There is a difference between what Perth has, with it's strong local rugby community and it's soccer club which inspired the A-League, and Melbourne. Melbourne has a test quality ground, while we have begged and scrounged for and received a stand.

When it comes to not having a venue good enough for the Asian Cup, I think we still have a right to feel disenchanted.

It sends the message to the relevant national bodies that the WA government doesn't support the international football codes, implying that it sees them as a threat to the majority football code they currently support.

I'd have to agree. The stand is adequate without being in any way clever, but I'd also add that when Perth metalworkers complain about steel construction on resource projects going overseas they only have to look at the cost of the NIB upgrade and Perth Arena to see why.

True, and it is frustrating to think what NIB could/will become..in another 20 years..
Out of curiosity, why is it good enough for international rugby standards but not up to international soccer standards, I mean, just look at the last stadium the socceroos played at in Tajakistan, that made the old warm up track at Perry Lakes look like the Taj.

Just think, they could finish the rest of the ground now for half of what it cost them to do the eastern stand
