That's what I was thinking in an earlier comment about DHP being a bit out with his positioning on attack. Not to take away from his otherwise strong game. They need to work on better running (inside) lines and straightening the midfield runners. A bloke with the size and pace of DHP will always keep defenders interested and create space if they get it right.

Disappointed but at least they're trying to play rugby now.

Ruck Stats from the WF v Rebs game.

    Remember:
    1. Early means 1st or 2nd of player’s team AFTER the ball carrier has been tackled and brought to ground.
    2. Impact means active engagement: strong physical contact, changed shape of ruck, clean-out, protecting ball etc. (more than hand on someone’s bum or arriving after the hard work has been done). Yes it’s subjective - but as I collect all data at least it’s consistent.
    3. Impact DOES NOT equate to Effectiveness. I’ve concluded that coming up with an effectiveness measure is just too hard in the time that I have available – but open to suggestions.

    David Pocock - 29 Total (14 Attack/15 Defence)

    Michael Hooper - 24T (14A/10D)

    Jake Schatz - 29T (23A/6D)

    Will Skelton - 21T (9A/12D)

1,000 Apologies...Found an error in my data so have changed the first 3 slides. Front Row involved a lot more than first shown.

Thanks. Those bar graphs tell an ugly story.

Andrew G great well done with setting up the graph comparisons with the rest of the aussie's. 1 thing that was obvious as well was the involvement of the front rows. Pretty sure the boys will sort that out at least i hope they do they've got a fair test ahead of them this week with the reds scrum.

Great work again AndrewG- Have you sent these to the Force, unless they've already been doing these stats I hope!

One last plot re total rucks made.

Brumbies and Waratahs showed similar ruck involvements against very different opposition.

Reds stats reflect their 62% Possession. Little pressure on the Waratahs ball carriers and a very low (75%) tackle success rate.

Force and Rebels were evenly matched for ruck involvement, however, the Force was generally slow to rucks all game and showed little of the quick line speed and strong support play which was evident in their trial matches..

Round 2 matches present fairly even match-ups regarding rucking strategies and involvements.

Excellent work as usual andrewg. It will be interesting to go over the stats and the charts post-season to see how things went over the season.

It's not often I get the time/chance to gather data from all 5 Aussie teams.

My main focus this year is on monitoring the Western Force games as well as Aussie derbies.
That should give me a minimum of 5 games for each Aussie franchise.

I'll also be trying to cover Wallabies Tests.

    An article has just been posted on Green and Gold Rugby;

Ball retention is still an issue but the Front Row involvement looks much better after the corrections.
