PINDAN PREMIER GRADE PREVIEW: ROUND 17

Pindan Premier Grade Match of the Round – Cottesloe (4) v Associates (5) at Harvey Field, Cottesloe.

Round Eight: Associates 37 defeated 23 Cottesloe at Allen Park, Swanbourne.

Harvey Field will play host to a mouthwatering Pindan Premier Grade Match of the Round when Cottesloe lock horns with Associates in the ‘Battle of Broome Street’ in a clash that will prove pivotal in the race for the finals.

The Gulls currently sit in fourth-place just three-points ahead of Associates and can take another step towards the post season with a win in front of their home crowd. ‘Cott’ will be determined to redeem themselves after a devastating 29-26 loss to Nedlands last week.

Associates will be up and about this weekend heading into their most important match of the season to date. The Swanbourne club’s fate is in their own hands and can make the jump into the four with a victory at Harvey Field. ‘Soaks’ will take confidence into the clash coming off an encouraging 26-21 loss to second-placed Wests Scarborough.

Cottesloe: 1. John Monk, 2. Phil Battersby, 3. Kaisa Reidy, 4. Kieran Stringer, 5. Damien Carley, 6. Rory Crowhen 7. Jarrett Budworth, 8. Adrian Hall, 9. Charl Nieuwenhuis, 10. Antini Brown, 11. Kelvin Smith, 12. Sean Martin, 13. Sam Parker, 14. Nili Afeaki, 15. Tobias Hoskins
Associates: 1. John Ogilvie, 2. Tabbie Du Plessis, 3. Andy Lawrence, 4. Lachlan Valentine, 5. Peter Trend, 6. Dean Taylor-Menzies , 7. Michael Hardwick, 8. Michael Polastri, 9. Justin Turner, 10. Matt Dreyer, 11. Ross Palframan, 12. Junior Sifa, 13. Casper Nell, 14. Tevita Sifa, 15. Robbie Ingram.

Nedlands (1) v Joondalup (8) at The Foreshore, Nedlands.

Round Eight: Nedlands 37 defeated Joondalup 7 at HBF Arena Sportsplex, Joondalup.

Nedlands will look to move closer to clinching the minor premiership when they entertaining eight-placed Joondalup at The Foreshore.

‘Neddies’ recorded their 11th four-try bonus-point of the season in last round’s thrilling 29-26 win over Cottesloe. Nedlands sit ahead of Wests Scarborough on points difference and will be looking to put in another fine attacking performance against the Brothers this weekend to maintain pole-position.

Joondalup will be intent on bouncing back against ‘Neddies’ this week after a 16-point loss at the hands of UWA last round. The Brothers have claimed some big scalps in their maiden Pindan Premier Grade season including UWA, Cottesloe and Kalamunda and will be keen to add the ladder leaders to their list.

Nedlands: 1. Joseph Ritchie, 2. Richard Naylor, 3. Mark Davies, 4. Michael Egan, 5. Sam Offer, 6. Tino Ruwhui 7. Shane Hemi, 8. Tevin Ferris, 9. Nathan Roberts, 10. Jesse Toto, 11. Kauri Cudd, 12. Fred Titoko, 13. Juan Pretorious, 14. Neihana Christian, 15. Dylan Loversidge

Palmyra (6) v Wests Scarborough (1) at Tompkins Park, Alfred Cove.

Round Eight: Wests Scarborough 22 defeated 10 Palmyra at Bennett Park, Doubleview.

Wests Scarborough have locked up a top two finish this season but will look to regain top-spot when they travel to Tompkins Park to take on sixth-placed Palmyra.

Wests continued their extraordinary 2015 season in Round 16 overcoming a determined ‘Soaks’ outfit to triumph 27-21. The Boars have dropped just one match this season and will be determined to keep their run going as they begin to hit their straps heading into the finals.

Palmyra hopes of a finals berth are still well and truly alive despite a six-point loss to Kalamunda last round. ‘Paly’ currently sit in sixth spot but are just three-points outside of the four and wins in the next fortnight could set the club up for an unexpected finals appearance. ‘Paly’ were at their attacking best against the Bulls, running in four tries but will need to strengthen their defence against the might of the Boars.

    Palmyra: Not Supplied
Wests Scarborough: 1. Mike Tamihana, 2. Conan Houkamau, 3. Chris Kidd, 4. Tom O Day, 5. Sean Flatman, 6. TBA, 7. Kieth Andrews, 8. Pierre Roberts, 9. Ryan Burge 10. AJ Alatimu 11. Jordan Luke, 12. Marty Campbell, 13. Saula Fifta, 14. Cody Coe Baker, 15. Jerome Leonard Te Kanawa.

UWA (7) v Perth Bayswater (10) at McGillivray Oval, Mount Claremont.

Round Eight: UWA 45 defeated Perth Bayswater 8 at Pat O'Hara Reserve, Morley.

UWA will look to keep themselves in the hunt for fourth spot when they play host to bottom-placed Perth Bayswater.

The students continued their late season charge with a 41-25 win over Joondalup in Round 16. Richard Hardwick ran in all five of UWA’s tries to claim man of the match honours for the second week in a row. UWA currently sit in seventh but are just four-points outside the four and depending on other results wins in the next two weeks could see them reach the finals to defend their title.

Perth Bayswater went back-to-back and claimed their second win of the season in Round 16 with a gutsy 20-12 win over Wanneroo. ‘Baysie’ have been anchored to the bottom of the table all season but a pair of wins to finish the season could see them avoid the wooden spoon.

UWA: 1. Nevin Mills 2. Ed Brook, 3. Jacob Gianoli, 4. Jeremy Smith, 5. Tim Carslaw , 6. Tala Moli, 7. Cian O’Connor, 8. Richard Hardwick, 9. Ethan Carlisle, 10. Ryan de Franck, 11. Levon Kvas-Rothwell, 12. Grant Hardwick, 13. Ben Taylor, 14. Clay Uyen. 15. Aiden Higo.
Perth Bayswater: 1. Neil Boland, 2. Chris Temple, 3. Adam Grant, 4. Brandon Olaw, 5. Ngaruhe Jones, 6. Joel Winterburn, 7. Jake Buist, 8. James Elaschewshy, 9. Troy Mete, 10. Ollie Clements, 11. Reuben Haile, 12. Kolia Konelio, 13. Wade Bryant, 14. Zubyr Abrahams, 15. Wayne Thompson

Wanneroo (9) v Kalamunda (3) at Kingsway Reserve, Landsdale.

Round Eight: Kalamunda 42 defeated 5 Wanneroo at Hartfield Park, Forrestfield.

Kalamunda will look to continue their five match winning streak when they travel to Kingsway Reserve to take on ninth-placed Wanneroo.

Kalamunda have booked their finals ticket for 2015 and look to have third spot all wrapped up after a 37-31 win over Palmyra last week. The Bulls appear to be hitting their stride at the right time of the season and will be keen to build on their momentum against Wanneroo looking towards the finals.

Wanneroo went down to bottom-placed Perth Bayswater by eight points in Round 16 and will look to bounce back when they play host to Kalamunda. The Roodogs have not tasted victory since Round 11 and will be keen to give their loyal home crowd something to cheer about this weekend.

Wanneroo: 1. Owen Italiano, 2. Scott Cornell, 3. Andre Roux, 4. Timothy Iro, 5. Bradley Campbell, 6. Mark Cornell, 7. Benjamin Stimson, 8. Nathan Iro (c), 9. Bryce Watkins, 10. Tani Puki, 11. Marcell Blackie, 12. Andrew King, 13. Cerri Cummings, 14. Michael Wilson, 15. Byron Hutchinson

A forfeit in premier grade is, imo, an embarrassment.

Went to watch Uni v Perth. That might as well of been a forfeit.
I'm disappointed for Baysie, obviously toward the end of a long season. I really hope they recruit well for next year and stiffen up. No one wants to see games like that. Uni were poor in their backs ( as they have been in the few games Ive seen them this season) but their forwards were very, very good.
Uni's no 8 Richard Hardwick scored 4 try after I'm told a 5 try haul last week. He was absolutely everywhere. Surely this young fella must be on the verge of a regular force gig?

Was it some kind of 'technical' forfeit, ie they turned up and played the game, but for some reason it still goes down as a forfeit (I guess it could be if you don't field a seconds side you can't be credited with the firsts, or inability to name a qualified front row or some other technicality)

He's looking good.....Any feedback on how he played?

I was at Cot v Soaks....some good rugby played with Cot scoring early and then forcing it home in the 2nd half.

Looking forward to having Richard show his stuff in the NRC. Great to have try scoring back rowers.

Will be good to have Richard and Kane keeping the pressure on and backing up Gus, Hodgo and Big Dog.

I saw Paly yesterday, and still find it hard to believe how Baysie beat them, how'd that happen?

only at Rugby WA - a forfeit is 25-0. I can say the other week Brothers were short in so much as they threw a bag of haggis on the field with a number on, but I doubt they would be short enough to forfeit. .

OK, so if the game went ahead, then there must have been some technical thing. Perhaps insufficient trained front rower named?

If the scrums were uncontested (golden oldies) all day, that is pretty much equally as bad at Premier Grade as a forfeit for not playing.
