I know i bagged Josh Heke as a coach before but he did a great job to keep the boys together in a tough spot and get the win over soaks this could be the turning point for the season.

A bit similar to John Mitchell, too autocratic. He just has one of those coaching styles that polarized the playing group.

The full story is this, last tuesday they went into the changerooms to review the game v UWA. This quickly turned into a finger pointing, blame game type meeting which was the final straw with more than half the team threatening to walk if he remained co-coach. Its never a good tactic to start picking out individual mistakes and berating the individual for 30 mins on said mistake. The players galvanized against Paul and then it was either fall on your sword or be sacked. He chose to fall on his sword.

It was always going to be a weird fit for the team as Josh and Pauls coaching styles never quite seemed to gel. A lot of power struggles. Most of the boys were recruited by Josh so are more his boys. Same thing happened after 2008 premiership, almost the whole team walked out as soon as the season was over. Pauls a decent fella and a knowledgeable coach, he just needs to adjust his methods from stand over to work with a bit more.

In a coaching situation you're never far from a fully fledged sh*tfight, especially when thing's aren't coming together.
A much maligned rugby WA person shared some advice once to a coach about to embark on a certain course of action.
Basically - "don't do anything contentious unless you are sure you have the senior player group with you"
Great bit of advice that, it's been a keeper. It's "a learning experience" for some of us "old school" types.
Hope he has a break, and then makes that hard walk back into the clubroom, head up.

2 bloodless coups in 6 years, are players being a bit precious?
