Kane Koteka and Chris Alcock - Comparison with other Aussie No 7s

The data below shows how Aussie No7s have performed up the end of Round 9.
Fortunately Australian rugby is blessed with a wide range of good players in this position.
At this stage David Pocock, and Liam Gill appear to be the best choices for the Wallaby squad. However, David pocock needs to show that this level of performance can be sustained.
Scott Fuglistaller and David Pocock have some impressive ruck stats. BUT these average stats are only based on data from 2 games. However, their other stats in the lower table are very impressive and these are based on total game time to date. Both have impressive rates for TOW. David Pocock has least Line Out involvement.
Liam Gill has an impressive all-round game and particularly good TOW rate.
Michael Hooper, the incumbent Wallaby No 7, appears to be struggling this year in all facets of his game except for ball-carrying. His ruck involvement is the lowest of all of these No 7s.
Kane Koteka can stand tall for his efforts as OSF in the absence of Matt Hodgson. He clearly has a big future in this position and will benefit from Hodgo’s on-going leadership and guidance. He has shown strong ruck involvement (a good base for the rest of his game) but needs to work on his effectiveness (shown to some extent by Turn Overs Won) and number of tackles.
Chris Alcock has a concerningly low tackle success rate on an already low tackle count. This means that on average he has 3 Missed Tackles per game.
Jarrad Butler is the least effective ball-carrier and has the highest level of line-out involvement.

Great stats again Andrew - Kane has really been a great find. Chris played really well in the NRC and thought he did really well on Saturday although watching the replay at that point where Nick lost the ball forward in 2nsd half, seems to have been due to confusion with Nick and Chris getting muddled from the pass coming through. Nick comes through for the pass but Chris seems to think it's for him probably not seeing Nick on the inside and gets in the way. Without that fumble we'd probably have had a try. But that comes back to the probs with finishing attacks and lines again I gues.

Pocock is rarely in a lineout. He is generally outside waiting to do the first hit up.

Those are some damning statistics for Hooper. Lowest numbers of turnover wins and rucks which are essentially what a 7 is supposed to provide in abundance...

Micheal Hooper is styling his game on a loosie floating in the backs... He would be a damaging centre as he spends a lot of time out there.. Thats why his metres are so high.. Maybe Cheika should put th 13 jumper on him for a game,,,

Particularly since Kuridrani is hurt, he'd make a good centre replacement for the Wallabies. Unfortunately, the Wallatahs seem to have no backup plan at 7 to allow this to happen.

If i recall correctly, he was always very good at securing over throws at the back of the lineouts.
