NEW INITIATIVES MARK START OF PINDAN PREMIER GRADE

    WESTERN FORCE MEDIA RELEASE
    Thursday, 26 March 2015

Perth’s Pindan Premier Grade will kick off it’s 2015 season this weekend, with the competition boasting several new initiatives this season.

In addition to the Pindan Premier Grade Trophy for the winner of the competition’s grand final on Sunday, 23 August, teams will have the opportunity to contest the RugbyWA Cup throughout the season, while one match per round throughout the season will be streamed live over the internet.

Similar to New Zealand’s Ranfurly Shield, the RugbyWA Cup will be contested on a challenge system with the holder to defend it at all home fixtures during the regular season (excludes finals matches). Once a team has successfully defended it on three occasions, all of the holder's subsequent matches will be mandatory defences – irrespective of home or away. The annual winner of the Cup is the team in possession after Round 18.

The Joondalup Brothers, who have been promoted into the Pindan Premier Grade for the first time in 2015, will contest the RugbyWA Cup for the first time when they host Kalamunda in Round One this Saturday at HBF Arena Joondalup.

The inaugural RugbyWA Cup clash will also be streamed live over the internet – the first time a Pindan Premier Grade match can be seen live online.

The streaming, made possible by LMSC, can be seen live HERE. Games will be available to watch online after the match.

In addition to Joondalup’s RugbyWA Cup showdown with Kalamunda, the first round will feature defending premiers, UWA, take on Associates at McGillivray Oval; last year’s minor premiers, Nedlands, will host Wests Scarborough at The Foreshore; Perth Bayswater travels to Harvey Field to front Cottesloe; and Wanneroo and Palmyra will square off at Kingsway Reserve.

RugbyWA General Manager, Game Development, Andrew Hill says the new initiatives will kick-start what promises to be another big season of local rugby.

“The start of a new season is always a fantastic time of the year, and we’re particularly excited about what the 2015 season has in store,” he said.

“Joondalup’s promotion provides more competition as they represent one of the strongest rugby growth regions in the country, and reports from our clubs are that the pre-season preparations have been very thorough as they look to make a charge in this year’s Pindan Premier Grade season.

“The RugbyWA Cup will provide additional interest to matches throughout the season, and provides a competition within the competition as teams challenge one another for the right to hold the cup at the end of the season.

“Similarly, we’re very excited to be broadcasting one match a week online through our partnership with LMSC. This will provide the opportunity for those not at the match to be able to view it live, including a large number of former players and club members no longer in Perth who still take a strong interest in the local game here.”

Looks like a few teams are waiting until training tonight to finalise their teams. Should be an interesting 1st round.

Are we running a tipping comp for the local competition this year?

Joondalup won the cup today well done Brothers whilst Kalamunda were shocking and need ti be given a mirror to look into after that performance. Brothers 12 was outstanding 3 tries from nothing.

Watched Neddies Wests game yesterday, the one that got away for Neddies. Clubs these days seem to make unnecessary changes to their starting line up towards the end of the game. I can understand it if the changes are made with impact fresh players, but to bring on players just because they are on the bench is not a good idea. Remembering they have already played a game in two's.
    Cost Neddies the points.

Don't know the final score as I had to leave early, but Palmyra were four tries ahead of Wanneroo with 15 minutes to go when I left.

It's a hard one. Do you have 6 or 7 fresh reserves on the bench or do you go with just a couple. Guys want to play if they go to training and clubs simply don't have the numbers for big squads. It's about finding the right balance and you either do away with 4th grade and have 3 grades with big numbers or suck it up so the guys who are social can have a game as well.
You're right choice Wests didn't deserve the win yesterday and at halftime I'm thinking we're gonna get smoked by 40.Paddy Dellit absolutely ripped our midfield to bit's but we hung in and how good was Lacey in the last 20 minutes.
Neddies had a lot out but so did we. Early days but plenty to work on for both teams.
Bros must have a lot more going for them than I thought because Kala gave us a lesson at the breakdown preseason. The result is going to make it a lot tougher for Bros because no one will be taking them lightly now, good result for club rugby.
Soaks look to be the big improvers this year.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Big news out of Kala, was hanging with a few of the boys last night and they are about to lose the majority of thier backline, they not happy with Paul King's coaching selections etc.., a few of thier star backs are about to take up the offers made from other clubs.
Thier forwards dominated Joondalup but thier backs were shit, midfield can't tackle (which cost them the game as Jbros 12 ran in 3 tries), 10 was fumbling around all game, one of the best attacking backs in wa left on the bench most of the game to be taught a lesson.
I think the dramas going on at Kala cost them the game and Joondalup rode the emotion of the occasion to victory. Good on Joondalup I wonder if they still $recruiting$ and need a has been 9/10/bodybuilder

    Interesting game, that one.
Suggestions to Brothers for their next home game:
    1) Ball kids
    2) Could the refs please have a change room clear of weights and air compressor?

Not enough quality players at each club to have more than 2 fresh reserves, which means you don't have to make 8 changes. watching yesterdays games again showed the huge gap between 1's and 2's

Luxury - The other season I walked into the gents to find a junior team (all around 7 or 8) changing in there????????, might be enjoyed by some, but I was quite surprised. Apparently the other team wouldn't let them in the change room.
