Wallabies' Foley to stay another 3 years

Wallabies five-eighth Bernard Foley has re-committed to Australian rugby for a further three years after securing a "flexible" contract extension that allows him to also play two seasons in Japan.

The deal locks 25-year-old Foley in with the NSW Waratahs until the end of 2018.

It allows him to play for a Japanese club after this year's Rugby World Cup and again after next year's Rugby Championship.

So the peanuts last night were on about these flexible contracts for ages and the question asked will it cause burnout etc, what if other players are allowed it, Izzy etc, how many contracts should be allowed.

Here's a novel idea, let's say they allow 15 of these flexible contracts in total (one for every starting position on average) and then spread those 15 spots around the 5 teams, so that would be 3 each. That way the top talent would be spread more evenly across the country, it would be a consideration when renewing contracts. It would stop the Waratahs stockpiling all the talent.

I know the ARU would never let that happen but just a thought to make things a little more even.

As an aside, I see Phil Waugh is the latest east coast whinger to blame the current 'crisis' in the Aus Conf on there being too many franchises. Why can't they take a good look at what's happening in WA (and Vic for that matter) and realise that the game is growing in leaps and bounds over here?!!
