    And It Begins Again ...

It's getting towards the start of the local competition and there must be some scratch matches planned for this weekend.

Anyone know who's playing who and where?

Well I watched Pally play Uni today in all grades. Pally got pumped everywhere except colts where they won 3 trys to 2.

Scrotom, Uni's recruit from Kalamunda, was outstanding at number 8, and Uni had depth and class everywhere. I didn't see their new Irish halfback in action but I heard he was exceptional.

I think they and Wests will be the trend setters this year.

The first grade referee was the best I've seen in WA since Lyle Arbuckle. A few more like him will improve things greatly.

As much as Lyndon Bray learnt in the Nedlands School of Referreeing For the Advancement of Nedlands, I don't think his limp wristed approach puts him in Lyle's class, Gunny.

Nedlands were a couple tries too god for us in the 4 quarter trial game played today. Nedlands look like they might be holding some players back at this stage of the year as not many regular 1st graders were there from last years side. Once the drizzle set in the skills of both sides went downhill quickly although for the most part it was a decnt physical contest. Only real surprise was the lack of suppoters from Nedlands. Only about 15 at the game. Im sure they will be ok again it is Nedlands after all.
Kala u/19s got up 4 tries to 2. Some very hungry defence shown by Kala. Especially the young fullback from Kala who knocked out the Neddies flyhalf in an absolute bone cruncher. Play stopped for 15 mins until he regained consciousness. Encouraging signs for both sides.
Kala 3rds got up but the 4ths lost.

On a sidenote not sure about the party boat on the river blasting 'cherry pie' and 'pour some sugar on me' at a billion decibels.

I was also at the Neddies Kala scratch matches. Interesting comment about 3rds and 4ths. Neddies started with barely 15 players to Kala's 40. Still gave them a whooping according to Alvin "Stardust"
To say Neddies were keeping players back was an understatement 40 minutes before kickoff they didn't have a run on team.
But then Neddies pre season is a bit like that lately.
