Worst Australian Rugby League Team Ever?

Was this the worst Australian rugby league team of all time or just in the last 50 years?

Hardly a forward to scare anybody.

Aside from Inglis a backline that hardly intorduces terror into the defence.

A soft pack is fundamentally un Australian when it comes to the Kangaroos

Suck it up Rex. You got done by a more hungrier team. One thing I did pick up was the amount of late hit's after the kicker had gone downfield, both team's were guilty of it.

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

Nope not the worst, but certainly a team who didn't bother to lift until 10 minutes to go.

Far be it from me to praise the Kiwis but I think you do them a bit of disservice there Westies as it normally implies an inferior team that wanted it more. They were actually the smarter and more composed of the two teams.

Also with all the sh*t that got heaped on the Wallabies this year they actually didn't end up with that much worse of a record than the Kangaroos...

The 2005 team was less-hampered by injuries and had quite a few household names like Anthony Minichiello, Timana Tahu, Mark Gasnier, Brent Tate, Trent Barrett, Craig Gower, Petero Civoniceva, Danny Buderus, Craig Wing, Willie Mason and Steve Price.

    And they got done 24-blot.

Well done NZ, the only time Australia looked threatening was maybe the 5 or so minutes after their first try. Kiwi forwards kept rumbling forward and gave plenty of space for Johnson and company to carve up.

Even the rubbish 4th choice Australian side took it down to the wire though.

I think the big story out of the tournamet was the performance of the Samoan side. Really could have played in the final but went down in two very close contests against NZ and England.

Yep the NZ team were the best by some distance. How they Aussies were still within striking distance is a mystery. I think the Mungos are possibly getting into a similar situation to the Wallabies - no depth underneath. Couple that with the ageing incumbents and international matches are going to be close contests. Some of the Sydney born Islanders are likely to be in green and gold too. Lafai and Leilua for starters.

I don't think it's that bad - the old guard does appear to be waning but I just think the young players need to mature mentally, much like the young Kiwi players appear to have over the last year.
