    Wallabies Squad announcement Today

I am excited to see which Force guys will be in it.

I think Pek, Charles and McCalmen. I would love to see Hodgson as a Pilfering 6, but i doubt he will get the nod :-/

How could they not choose him! He is the most menacing looking player on the roster:

Beale at 10 over Foley? Unfortunately I can't really see this team troubling the ABs too much...

    Beale named as Wallabies five-eighth

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie has overlooked Bernard Foley and named NSW teammate Kurtley Beale at five-eighth for Saturday night's Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup opener against the All Blacks.

Foley is the incumbent Australian No.10 and was the hero of the Waratahs' historic Super Rugby final triumph over the Crusaders 10 days ago, but has been relegated to the Wallabies bench.

Beale also enjoyed an outstanding Super Rugby campaign and his inclusion as the Wallabies' chief playmaker gives the Waratahs four starters in the backline.

In other changes to the starting side that completed a 3-0 whitewash of France in the June Test series, Adam Ashley-Cooper moves from wing to outside centre at the expense of Brumbies No.13 Tevita Kuridrani.

Waratah Rob Horne and Brumbies utility Pat McCabe are the new wingers, with the Western Force's Nick Cummins vacating his spot to take up a contract in Japan.

The only three players to retain their backline positions from the French series are fullback Israel Folau, inside centre Matt Toomua and halfback Nic White.

Foley and Kuridrani have both been named on an extended nine-man bench.

There have also been two changes to the forward pack, with Nathan Charles to start at hooker after Totafu Polota-Nau joined Stephen Moore on the sidelines with a knee injury, while Sam Carter returns to the second row in place of Will Skelton.

There was no room in the squad for World Cup captain James Horwill.

"There were a number of extremely tough selection decisions, especially after the way the team performed against France, however we're confident we've come up with the best squad possible to win on Saturday night," McKenzie said.

"In the end, we've got a very similar group of players to those who got the job done against France, we've just modified some roles slightly to suit how we want to play the game."

Wallabies: Israel Folau, Pat McCabe, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Matt Toomua, Rob Horne, Kurtley Beale, Nic White, Wycliff Palu, Michael Hooper (capt), Scott Fardy, Rob Simmons, Sam Carter, Sekope Kepu, Nathan Charles, James Slipper. Reserves: James Hanson, Pek Cowan, Ben Alexander, Will Skelton, Ben McCalman, Scott Higginbotham, Nick Phipps, Bernard Foley, Tevita Kuridrani (one to be omitted).

Only place to accommodate him with Toomua and Folau in the XV. And it would be UNTHINKABLE to leave him out ;-p

holy shit. Beale at 10. What a fucking joke. Foley was playing amazingly at 10 and then to drop him to the bench!

    beggars belief really.

I am happy with AAC at 13, he has had a great season

I think either McCalman or Higgers will be dropped.

Why do I have a feeling it will be Doggie who will get cut? I guess the squad is a bit short on wingers at the moment though... Higgers would be perfect in the 'impact' seagull role!

So Link looking to punch holes through the outside channels in attack.
Having seen NZ target the 'talisman/media' player in a couple big games previously.
Beale should be on the bench as for 10 & 12, and if Hooper is buckled early, whose is the deep, tight working, tackle making, ball pilfering 7??? He isn't in the 23.
    Negatives aside.. Smash it Nathan!

As Hamlet stated something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Next week we will probably hear that Beale has signed with the Tahs as he is no longer on the bench.

And look at all the tacklers placed in the backline to help him cope!

I'm more concerned about the other wing Kenya, Paddy McCabe has long proven to be toilet at international level and the ABs will run at him all day.

Centres look good, but I can't imagine they'll see enough ball with Foley on the bench.

Pack, serviceable, set piece should survive, but I don't think we'll get enough ad line for Beale to have a good game. At least his favorite play of get neck deep in the shit and then give it to Izzy to get him out is still available.

Not that concerned about McCabe's defense, and if he relapses into dying with the ball it won't matter too much. Horne's defense is pretty solid too. I'd be more worried about them under the high ball, turning for the kick in behind and whether they have the pace necessary for international wings. Not that seeing much of the ball may matter to one of them much, as Beale's passing to the right can be pretty average and he'll crab across to keep it short. Gotta say it is a high risk strategy for McKenzie - it really does look like selection was driven by a public public whinge, and matches probably don't come much more significant. Beale really needs to have a blinder.
