Do tend to agree that the rest of pictures do tend to look a lot like an upmarket Subi, with everything still behind the stands. But our enthusiasm is neither necessary or important; we'll just have to wait and see how it really looks. One thing folk should bear in mind in future though - the price tag is 2014 dollars. It will cost more before it is finished, but that does not necessarily mean an overrun.

I have no problem with ground level seats as that's how it is at NIB and most other rectangle stadia.

But it needs to be done, not kept oval. That's awful.

And look at the rugby pitch in the picture, they can't even draw the pitch properly, what chance do we have for the stadium?

I agree Jono, though I'm a WACA guy, so I'd like to see that ground in particular redeveloped so we can keep the WACA name alive in international sport. I have a similar idea though.

On a side note, why do we need so many fully-appointed WAFL grounds?

The Sports Overlay image suggests it will be another Subiaco Oval (As mentioned in previous posts). For the majority, even with drop in seating, it will not be spectator friendly to watch rectangular field sports there.

Don't kid yourselves people, test matches will be played at Kitchener Park Burswood as soon as its finished in 2195 or whenever the construction company decide they've screwed enough over budget bullshit out of the state government. It will remain in oval configuration because AFL players can't play with even a bent blade of grass on the pitch.

This stadium is almost exactly the same proposal which was put forward all those years ago, the main differences, the price was higher then 1.1 billion, mainly inflated out by land costs, and 60,000 cup holders and 2 tvs, I guess they've got something for nothing in that deal, but weekly rugby soccer (and eventually mungo) get precisely nothing from this proposal and should continue to consider NIB as their home. The WA government will never build a proper rectangular stadium, and are unlikely to build phase three of NIB, so enjoy it while it's new and pray that all of the teams that occupy it are successful enough for private enterprise to see value in building an improved venue some time in the future.

Far too much whinging, read it again... We get CUPHOLDERS !!! Yippee !!!

This is the exact self same technology which enables tens of thousands of people to buy crap Korean cars and think that they are high performance and cutting edge.

CUPHOLDERS! Wow, Mr Barnett is so good to us.

Not hold it, put it where every person having to push past can knock it out of the flimsy plastic cup that is all that any West Australian can be trusted with.

It is the banging on about wifi coverage that cracks me up, like that is some amazing technological leap rather than something that McDonald's has managed for years. I can't help but wonder if it will be "free" like at most airports, presume it means the ground will be a reception deadspot (perhaps due to the "cutting edge" decoration), and can't help but suspect it is such a big deal because they expect everyone to be more interested in playing with their phones than watching the event - maybe streaming Foxtel so they can get a decent look at what is going on?

Listening to dead set legends this morning Ron Alexander mentioned the stadium will have retractable seating that will be used for rectangular sports, this ell add an additional 5000 seats, therefore a future bled insole may not be just a dream. He mentioned the seating will get as close as 1.5 m to the playing field and with a slight evelavation it could make decent viewing. Let us wait and see what it looks like before we run it down, there were many naysayers to the Perth arena and look at the talent it now attracts.

Also I was klistening to the ABC this morning and the commentators were saying that the goverment wanted 35 to 40 events a yr at the venue to make it pay as with sport it would be as follows

AFL 26 home and away and poss 1 or 2 finals series games
Rugby 1 or maybe 2 if we get better and get finals
Soccer 1 final game or a overseas team visiting
Cricket poss 4 to 5 ODIs or big bash ( Very slim chance was mentioned )
and poss 1 or 2 concerts
    total 37 events

Also mentioned was the AFL clubs dont want any corparate boxes or memberships sold as Venue use as this would lower the takongs as the AFL clubs want to have control of management...
This would make our AFL clubs have good revenue base and then what happens is the AFL Victoria skim the top of the bank account to use in the east to prop up struggling clubs was mentioned
Also mentioned was the fact of increasing seating was given thumbs down as the best stadium build size is 60000 seats world wide as it is the best seating and veiwing arrangement and if you increas people will just stay home and watch it on TV

In the end as GIGS said and he is on the mark we dont dream just keep NIB as our base
