I read this in an article (third section of a long article) on the News.com.au rugby site:

WORD out of Melbourne after the June Test series is that Scott Higginbotham is looking to play overseas after the 2015 season.
The Rebels skipper has told the club he believes he is now third choice No.8 in Australia behind Wycliff Palu and Ben McCalman, and will look at options offshore after the 2015 World Cup. But Higginbotham will be interested to learn that McCalman is also looking very closely at overseas options after the World Cup.

Personally I hope that Ben stays at the Force for at least a couple more years as I believe he is one of the mainstays in helping Hodgo and Foles shape the culture at the club.

Lets face it you could say exactly the same thing about every player involved in the World Cup. Of course they will be looking very closely but that doesn't mean they will go.

I'm an "old fart" and still trying I increase my pension and I've had 40 plus years to do it on a mediocre salary.
These guys may earn big now but their career can finish any time and if they are really lucky may last into their early 30s. They have every right to go were they can earn top dollar. If the ARU could start using their brains instead of sitting on them they may be able to work out ways to keep them in Wallaby contention and savemoney for he ARU.
If any Wallaby goes over seas they an be allowed back but don't receive a top up but only a match payment. That in its self would have to save a couple of million!
I'm sure there are other ideas out there. What's yours?

I see Todd Carney is available due to some unfortunate circumstances.... Be a good fit at the Reds with JOC next season! They could really develop the culture.

They had better start locking in the 4 local players from the Aussie u/20 side this season. Have heard they are all fielding phone calls from the Tahs and Reds

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

And Horan is looking hard for a "ball-running forward" for the Reds now that he has secured them a good brand of FB-cum-winger. Hope he's not trying to sweet talk Gus into a move back home!!

(Ok, so I may have exaggerated Horan's role in the recruitment just a tad!)

Why so we can pay his rehab fees instead of the reds?

Aye. Why would we want Turner? The injuries have robbed him of his outstanding pace, so he's just another winger. We've got Cummins, Morahan, DHP and Heyward for the back three, so why add another who isn't appreciably better? (Unless the know something we don't.+)

[+ Well, of course they know many things we don't, but specifically about the retention of our back line.]

Only Cummins and Morahan have committed beyond this year so far from those four.

Turner has been a great player over the years but I would be wary of signing another player with such a bad history of injuries. We knew MMM was an injury magnet but signed him anyway and I don't think anyone could say we got value out of him this year.

I'd like to see us sign some big hard-running pacific islanders like the Blues players or go for some young talent like that ginger-haired guy from the AUS U20's Andrew Kellaway.
