Each year when the Super Rugby draw comes out, you always mark the week and look forward to the opportunity when you get to play the defending champions.
This year that team is the Chiefs and this week is that opportunity for us. The Chiefs have already started the season with momentum and confidence, having recorded three wins from as many matches. They have retained the majority of their 2013 championship-winning squad, they have All Blacks players littered throughout their team and they boast threats all over the park. There is a reason they have won the last two Super Rugby championships – they go into everything at 100 per cent, are very thorough in what they do and continue to be very consistent week in and week out during an arduous campaign.
This weekend’s match provides our first home game against an international opposition. There are a large number of Kiwis in Perth and we have seen in the past that many of them are Chiefs fans, and so we’re looking forward to our "sea of blue" turning up in their thousands to join us. Already this season, as has been the case in previous years, the crowd of supporters has been our 23rd player and we hope our loyal supporters will help get us across the line and contribute to a third consecutive win this weekend.
The last two weeks have been some of the most enjoyable rugby I have experienced as part of the Western Force. To get back-to-back bonus point wins was amazing. The culture that has been created here has really brought our team close together; there is a large amount of respect for every player, coach and everyone who is involved, and we are very keen to keep this going.
