And has said nothing about it until the Tahs end up on the shitty end of the stick. I guarantee that looking at game footage will reveal time wasting tactics used by that very organisation between bringing it up per season and whingeing about it when they lose.

The famous tahs mid-season rot is starting to set in.

For future seasons I think all the Coaches should have a sheet published off all the issues they raised with SANZAR during pre-season

It is a bit pot-calling-kettle isn't it. The tahs have got to be one of the major culprits of time wasting tactics, though certainly more so in years past. Now that they are on the wrong side of things they spit the dummy and have a whinge about it.

As much as the tahs fans (and the Rugby HQ guys) seem to love his so called "straight talking attitude", I am personally somewhat glad we didn't get him here. Can you imagine the way he would have been described in the media if he was Force coach?

The lines we currently read; passionate, heart on sleeve, no nonsense Waratahs coach...
Would probably be turned into; dummy spitting, whinging, excuse-filled Force coach.

We are paying to see 80mins of rugby and we should be getting as close to that as humanly possible. The only way to do this is automatic time off for ball out of play and time limited restarts (get there, get set up, get the ball in and get on with it). Can always have it written into the deal - no ad breaks during restarts.

If something like that was written into the TV deal it would never get signed

Fox Sports don't show ad's during play in most sports anyway.

If a FTA network were to be enticed to show a game or two there would be no way around having ad's during the telecast.

If there was time off for each scrum with an allowance of 90 seconds, it would give FTA networks incentive to look at the game and create a bit of competition which leads to more coin for the sport. BUT instead of 2 hours for a game on Fox it will end up being 2 1/2.

    Interesting conundrum.

I for one agree with an earlier post. Team with scrum set and ready to engage wins a free kick if opponents not there and 30 seconds have elapsed. Mind you we would then have lots of undone bootlaces in the front row, cramps, etc.

How do you figure 2 1/2 hours? Games run for 2 hours now, and they estimate the ball in play at ~35 minutes. The math is pretty easy - how do you think the NFL came about?

The telecast runs for 2 hours. That includes pre and post game drivel and half time.

Ultimately the ref would be responsible for keeping the game moving since we don't want it to turn into NFL. Timewasting/feigned injury can be easily dealt with through changes to the way replacements are made (make the 10 minute concussion assessment a 10 minute injury assesment and do away with on field treatment). So an "injured" player who is holding the game up is immeadiately replaced (but can return inside of 10 minutes). Replacements should be able to be made during live play also (other sports seems to be able to do it).

Another way to speed things up is to do away with the "same ball" rule for quick throws and to relax the "on the mark" restrictions for quick taps.

The Tahs lost because the Ponies played better - get over it Cheika. I'm open minded about turning the clock off for scrum resets, but scrums are an essential part of a game that involves considered tactics, not just bash and crash. Make any changes subtle and don't lose the thinking parts of our game please!
