    Fifita considers code switch: report

Cronulla prop Andrew Fifita is reportedly considering a switch to rugby union.

An Australian Rugby Union spokeswoman confirmed to The Daily Telegraph that Fifita met Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie last weekend, although she could not say whether things would move beyond that meeting.

The newspaper reported that the 24-year-old has also recently changed management, and is now working with Sutherland Shire accountant Greg Willett, who also manages McKenzie.

Willett also attended the weekend meeting, but would not detail what was said.

Fifita has had a remarkable rise this year, making his NSW Origin debut in June and then featuring in the Kangaroos' successful World Cup campaign.

Andrew is a quality player - his brother Dave has on occasion played for my Club side here in Sydney. He has to be one of the most powerful ball runners I have ever seen in any grade of Rugby, Union or Mungo.

Andrew would be an asset to any team he joins.

What position would he be suitable for? No 8?

I imagine so - he actually has some impressive union credentials but I don't know what position he played. He denies these stories though.

Fifita has an amazing engine for such a big unit. Posted second fastest time trials at Cronulla in pre-season. At either 8 or 6 you could bank on 80 minutes from him. Size plus speed.

    Possible Mungo convert

BARNSTORMING Cronulla, NSW and Australian prop Andrew Fifita has dropped a bombshell just 47 days out from the start of the NRL season by revealing he's weighing up a potential switch to rugby.

The 2013 Dally M Prop of the Year, an integral part of the Kangaroos' World Cup triumph in England, is contracted to the Sharks for 2014 - but he admits the ARU's interest, led by Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie, is proving attractive.

"[McKenzie] asked me if I wanted to chase another dream pretty much and it always has been a dream of mine to play first grade rugby - I grew up playing rugby," Fifita, 24, told The Daily Telegraph.

"I've accomplished almost everything rugby league has to offer and he said, 'This is an option - don't consider it if your heart's not in it.'

"Being told by the Australian coach that you could have the opportunity to play with the Wallabies is a big rock just landing on you… several [rugby] clubs are talking saying they need a good number eight and I could fill in that position."

Arguably the most athletic front-rower in the NRL, the Sharks superstar could prove a revelation at the back of the scrum in the 15-man code.

The giant enforcer, however, insists his first preference is to remain at Cronulla - and, whichever option he chooses, he aims to sign a new deal by early March.

"I'd love to be at the Sharks and my number one priority is to stay here but I'm looking to sign something by round one," Fifita said.

I suspect that in the not to distant future one of the rugby league teams will be forced to move to Perth which in time will mean more opportunities for the Force to get these league converts

IF, and it's pretty big IF, a team relocated here, I really doubt the level of support they'd get. I was not sure who I'd support the first time the Reds played Canterbury. I got to the match and wanted the Reds to get up. I'm 100% sure I wiould strongly stick with the Dogs if a relocated team moved here. With the unlikely exception that the Storm was packed up and sent back to Perth.

Shasta I really do believe that they would do ok in terms of support there are a number of people who I know that are from NSW,QLD and NZ who love their league and would go along every second week to see ''proper football'' support a perth team each week until they play their first choice team.

I see similarities in some respects to the support the force get when you look at games against NZ teams and South African teams
