I don't think there was even a North Queensland bid.

Perhaps a RugbyWA Membership, but I doubt very much a Force Membership will get you access.

You would think if we play the "televised" match for the week it will have to be at Nib to accommodate Fox, others could be "anywhere".

What RWA needs to be thinking about is a cheap 2000 seat stand at a ground that doesn't cost them anything/much to use.

SA RUGBY MISSES OUT ON AN NRC TEAM

The Australian Rugby Union has today announced details on the successful NRC teams for the inaugural competition beginning this August. While an Adelaide team will not compete in the 2014 competition, the tender process has provided a clear pathway for our eventual inclusion. South Australia will work diligently with our Clubs, coaches and players to further develop the quality and competitiveness of our local competition which will be critical to our potential inclusion in the NRC in the near future.

In reply to the South Australian tender, the ARU have provided a detailed response to SA Rugby outlining the critical reasons why our tender was unsuccessful. The primary reason provided was that an Adelaide team would, at least initially, require much of its talent to be imported, which would expose SA Rugby and the competition to a more demanding expense base and a greater degree of financial risk. However the feedback was extremely complimentary of our overall tender going on to state that the ARU remain convinced that in due course an Adelaide team could be a viable participant in this competition. In the short term the ARU remains encouraged by SA Rugby’s continued commitment to the Junior Gold program, the Under 20s program and other development competitions representing a constructive pathway for South Australian Rugby Union for eventual involvement in the NRC.

The results of both the U15 and U17 South Australian Junior Gold Teams and their rapid improvement throughout the course of this year’s competition plus the skill and tenacity of the Junior Falcons in the Under 20′s show that Rugby in South Australia is on the path to national competitiveness. This is the critical factor that will bring with it involvement in the NRC in the future.

Thank you to all the members of the SA Rugby community that have supported our tender. The passion and commitment of our community is impressive and SA Rugby will continue working to bring high profile Rugby Union to South Australia in the near future.

For further information, please see the official announcement of the successful NRC teams here and a statement from SA Rugby Chairman, Wally Bell on the outcome here.

Commiserations Ox :-( Sounds like you have established some very solid foundations though so hopefully it will only be a matter of time before SA is able to join :-)

Intiga Stadium apparently seats over 5000, is the right shape and is walking distance for me

*aka Medibank Stadium. It will be used every weekend during WAFL season...and maybe the Weagles might use it as a training venue during the week.
