Mowen considers walking over pay dispute

If this is true, then the ARU really are a disgrace. They had a blank cheque for Folau, but nothing for Mowen until 2015??! Why bother to have rules when you're going to break them at will?

Goodness me Ben Mowen how many of your peers would pull on the gold wallabies jersey for free!

Peter I think you will find "not many" the way things are going at the moment.
The sooner they just give match fees ONLY the better. This top up is a crock of sh1t and they know it but dont do anything about it.
I also think they will play better if they are on match fees and a win bonus.

But the top-up element has been a crucial part of negotiations in past deals, and is guaranteed payment that is a safety net for players who miss Tests due to injury or non-selection.
Get rid of the safety net!

    Very true.

But for me the point is that they are (apparently) making Mowen wait the stipulated 2 years but bent over backwards for Folau who hadn't played a minute of rugby union before they agreed his mega top up.

Such blatant double standards really sucks.

And what if Mowen was the Tahs captain? Would the ARU be singing a different tune then? I reckon it probably would.

Inclined to agree, but it then begs the question why they made such a marginal player the captain. I think he has every right to be asking the question when he is simultaneously deemed such a part of the leadership team...

What chance of Honey Badger getting a top up now?

I know that's true gaffa, but let's actually look at the match ups and figure out why Mown might be more than a little pi$$ed.

Pocock, no doubt, walk up start, nobody disagrees with that.

Higginbotham, spends more time seagulling than trying to play rugby and wouldn't consider entering a Ruck if his life depended on it....Yeah that's what we need after the way south Africa enlarged our colon.

Palu is luggage, his one redeeming quality being that if he chances to make a big hit it apparently fires up another of our hit and miss tah forwards into feeling good about playing the game. with a percentage somewhere below my shoe size of that happening I'll take Mown thanks.

Did you watch Higgers this year with the rebels was close to the best 6/8 in the comp not much seagulling was a shame when he got injured.

This is maybe a switch in the way top-ups work. Show your committment to the jersey first. There will no doubt be players who miss out in the beginning. There is a way through this adjustment period. Pay "uncontracted" Wallabies a much higher match payment for the duration with part of the funds saved. Give the franchises the rest to help even out player contracting.
No more exceptions. Was Pulver in the front office when Folau agreed terms? Can't remember.

nope, not a second. (did he line up against the force?)

I don't know that super rugby form counts for much, Cliff Paul also plays pretty well at that level, but is a passenger in international rugby
