Women's grand final

Women’s Champions - Cottesloe
Cottesloe has wrapped up their undefeated 2013 season with a 10-3 victory over Wanneroo today.

Cottesloe took control early but Wanneroo turned it around and were first on the scoreboard with a penalty goal to Sharnee Werahiko.

The Gulls took a 7-3 lead before the half-time break with Australian Sevens representative Natasha Haines diving over the chalk and Kirsty Hadfield adding the extras.

Hadfield extended the Cott lead with a penalty early in the second and their confidence and intensity at the breakdown ensured they kept the lead to take out their first premiership, 10-3.

Premiership Fifth Grade grand final

Premiership 5th Grade Champions - Cottesloe
Two tries to outside centre Jarrod Manson has helped Cottesloe to a 17-10 grand final win over Associates in the Premiership Fifth Grade.

The Gulls midfielder scored in each half with his first – along with flyhalf Jeremy Wallcroft’s five-pointer – helping the minor premiers to a 10-3 lead at the break.

With both sides reduced to 14 men through the second term, a half bust and neat backhand pass from Wallcroft put Manson in for his second and a 17-3 advantage.

With the wind at their backs, Soaks poured on continual pressure through the second half, with James Sermon capitalising with a try in the corner.

While flyhalf Aphirak Paul piloted home the wide conversion, they were unable to make up the final seven-point deficit.

Championship Third Grade grand final

Championship 3rd Grade - Curtin Uni
Curtin Uni has defeated the Bunbury Barbarians, 20-13, in the Championship Third Grade grand final.

The competition’s minor premiers got out to a 17-0 lead just prior to half time with Goats scrumhalf Steve Maher steering home three penalty goals while Rob Chasland crossed for the only five-pointer of the half.

A late first-half penalty to Barbarians flyhalf Ray Reti put Bunbury on the scoreboard before two second half tries to fullback SekoKoroiuwai drew his side to within four points at 17-13.

However, another late penalty to Maher sealed the result for the Curtin Uni side.

Championship Second Grade grand final

Championship Second Grade Champions - ARKS
The Championship Second Grade has been taken out by ARKS, defeating minor premiers Curtin Uni 19-5.

ARKS were first on the board when outside centre Kayne Cassidy crossed the line and Angus Lawrie slotted the conversion but Curtin clawed back the lead to just two points when Brian Paki intercepted a wayward pass before passing it off to Hamish McKay who slid over the chalk.

A scuffle in the second half saw both teams lose a man each to the sin bin but ARKS made the most of the disadvantage slotting a penalty goal to lead 10-5.

ARKS again found themselves out of favour with the referee and were down to 13 men but again they were unperturbed by the disadvantage and Lawrie drove through another three points to extend the lead, 13-5.

Lawrie’s good form with boot continued adding another six points with a penalty and a drop goal sailing through to give his side the clear victory, 19-5.

Premiership Fourth Grade grand final

Premiership Fourth Grade Champions - UWA
UWA has claimed their fifth consecutive Premiership Fourth Grade title following their 34-28 win over Nedlands this afternoon.

The victory wasn’t without a scare though with the Students conceding a 29-0 lead before running out eventual six-point victors.

UWA dominated the first half crossing for four tries with Adrian Scherpenzeel, Ryan Lenegan and Montgomery Smith sharing the spoils, while Andrew Dopson proved accurate off the kicking tee with three conversions and a five-pointer of his own.

While Dopson added a penalty goal to the tally shortly after the break, Neddies were quick to click into gear with three tries in quick succession to Mike Smith (two tries) and Luke Powell.

With a boil-over brewing, UWA wrestled back late momentum when Greg Manning crossed for his side’s final try before Grant Allison scored a last-minute Nedlands try.

Premiership Third Grade grand final

Premiership Third Grade Champions - Nedlands
Nedlands are the Premiership Third Grade champions after defeating Palmyra 33-3 today.

Nate Christian crossed for Nedlands first try before Palmyra made their mark on the scoreboard with a penalty from Tame Simpkins.

Christian added another penalty goal before half-time with his side leading Palmyra 8-3 at the break.

Nedlands dominated the play in the second half opening with a second penalty and adding a further four tries courtesy of Mark McGregor, Matt Suter, Glen Briggs and Alvin Lau. Christian managed to convert the final try after missing the first three in the windy conditions to take the final score to 33-3.

Championship First Grade grand final

Championship First Grade Champions - Curtin Uni
Curtin Uni and ARKS have battled it out in a tough match at McGillivray today in the Championship First Grade grand final, with the uni students taking home the cup with a 16-9 win.

It was a game of penalties in the first half with Curtin Uni’s fullback Craig Tulloch slotting nine points and ARKS winger Reon Wynyard adding six points to his side’s tally.

Errors from both sides punctuated the opening 10 minutes of the second half before ARKS drew the score line with Wynyard’s third successful penalty.

Curtin Uni took the winning lead with a converted try and held off a desperate ARKS side to win 16-9.

The Championship GF turned out to be quite exciting - momentum switching back and forth and ARKS held up over the line on the last play of the match. A few inches (and a relatively easy conversion attempt) away from extra time!

Goodlife Health Clubs U18 grand final

Goodlife Health Clubs U18s Champions - Palmyra
Palmyra has claimed the Goodlife Health Clubs Under 18 premiership with a convincing 53-24 grand final win over Mandurah.

Palmyra crossed for seven tries with inside centre Nicholas Ward leading the way, touching down in either half.

The minor premiers were never headed as they raced out to a 26-10 half-time lead with Ward, Chad Ramsay, Casey Skinner and Brett Bissett crossing in the first term, while Mandurah’s points came from a try to No.8 Gerard DeKlerk and conversion and penalty goal to Zachary Wilson.

Palmyra kicked on in the second half with three unanswered tries to Ward, Mitchell Short and Adam Marshall, before Mandurah responded with one of their own through Harrison Ross.

Both sides traded tries in the late stages of the match with Michael Tui crossing for Palmyra before Kyle Akuhata rounded out the scoring with a try for Mandurah on full time.

Goodlife Health Clubs U20 grand final

Goodlife Health Clubs U20s Champions - Associates
Associates have won their third consecutive Goodlife Health Clubs Under 20s title after defeating UWA 21-13 in a thrilling match at McGillivray Oval today.

Soaks kick-started the scoring courtesy of Jack Webster’s intercept and offload to Tom Enright who dove over under the posts. Rhodri Adamson’s conversion sailed through to take the score to 7-0.

An acrobatic try in the corner for UWA winger Luke Fogliani and penalty goal for Luke Gilbert gave them the lead but they didn’t hold it for long with Walter Van Der Merwe and Adamson claiming a 14-8 lead for Soaks before the half-time break.

Another intercept try for Soaks via Nick Fielding extended the lead to 21-8 with Adamson’s conversion. UWA fought until the final siren with replacement Kieran Macguire sliding over for their second try to reduce the gap to 21-13 before the final whistle was blown.
