It used to be: first offense, bad luck mate, do your time and come back; second offense, well you're a bit of an idiot, have a long ban.

Naturally there is a lot of comment on Sydney radio because of the Sandor Earl infraction. One commentator said trafficking is a 4yrs - life immediate. First "using" 2 years, second 4 year minimum. Third is a life ban. Didn't say whose regulations that was taken from.

Just on the Earle thing; they said "trafficking" does not necessarily involve gaining enough to sell or supply. It can be as simple as ordering off the internet, picking it up from a PO and transporting to a doctors surgery for injection. Which it seems he did while recovering from reconstructive surgery. His medical adviser seems to have been on S Dank.

I'm not sure what the WADA guidelines are, from memory it's 2 years for the first two offenses and a life ban for a third, but cycling has been talking about life bans for second offenses and athletics has been talking about going to 4 years for a first offense and life ban for a second. Admittedly, these are sports who have needed to clean up their image!

I must say I've thought this for years. I'm sure this is the reason Jonny Wilkinson went through so many injuries. Hie first year at Newcastle,I think, he was a scrawny thing but the start of the next season he was totaly ripped. 2-3 years later was very injury prone.

Remember that creatine saga we had back then? Percy Montgomery comes to mind. As do the Lions and England teams from that era.
