20,221 crowd at Rabbitohs v Warriors

    http://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/sou...-1226675625125

Good to see the stadium full again tonight (biggest crowd since the Crusaders game in 2011 I'm pretty sure) - fingers crossed the Force can see crowds like that at NIB again soon!

Yeah that's what they said although i'm pretty sure the Crusaders crowd in 2011 was over 21,000. Sure someone can either correct me or back me up though..

Best crowd since the redevelopment indeed. Crusaders crowd was just under 19,300. Of course, it doesn't match the old East Perth WAFL attendances, I think the highest for them was just under 27,000 for a West Perth derby. I remember that being a sticking point with the East-West supporters in my family because West Perth could always fit more people into Leederville Oval.

The Glory's largest was just under 19,000 against South Melbourne one year when we had to start erecting the new temporary stands. It's weird because the Glory's crowds in their heyday always felt bigger because of the standing room on the hill and the shed always being packed and heaving.

Would a NRL team in Perth be a good thing or a bad thing?

Could be anything really. I suppose the only worry I would have from a union perspective is the parasitic nature RL traditionally has with rugby union around the world. I don't think it will be like that here in WA though, because for a long time (especially during the 80's and 90's leading up to our Winfield Cup inclusion) rugby league in WA was tremendously strong. I remember watching the State team back then knocking off some pretty formidable sides; there were players from the WARL who eventually went to higher honours over east and in the English Championship. The Western Reds had a number of WA players in the greater squad when they debuted and players who came through the academy went on to play state-of-origin level even after they folded.

There is also a fair divide between the two codes' spheres of influence here, so I would be surprised if poaching occurs, at least in the early days of the new NRL club. Down the track however, who knows?

Shows what can happen when the sport is entertaining (never thought I'd say that about Biff and Bash!) and there's a chance that either side might win.

Losing (and expecting to lose) week after week after week lessens the entertainment value.

Still, we keep on hoping ...

That was the 2010 crowd according to Wikipedia - 2011 is listed as 22,000 as maelkann posted.

I think a good thing, but I support both codes

    Couldn't agree more.

At the moment the Force are a laughing stock amongst the WA sporting landscape. Could describe that as a brutal way to describe it but it's true.

Souths are finally having a decent season after 24 years so there is hope!

Smith was impressed with crowd acc to NZ radio coverage. Probably all the same Bogans as the Wikato matches turned out. 2014 is the year. Bring it on. Three NRL matches next year.

There was a large crowd last night but with it being the Warriors i wouldn’t take much notice at the crowd number.

We all know there is a large number of NZ follower who only turn out once a year when a NZ team is playing and then never heard of again till next year. Would be the same for a WA League team.

The Rabbitohs did pull 17,500 or so a previous time they played here; can't remember who they played, though
