Foundation Melbourne Rebels prop Nic Henderson has announced his retirement at the end of the Super Rugby season.

The popular Rebels loose-head prop will hang up his boots after their final match at AAMI Park on July 12.

The 32-year-old announced his decision prior to the Rebels' Friday night clash with the Brumbies, where he played most of professional rugby.

The Canberra match will be his 118th Super Rugby match, which is the second highest of any prop forward in Australian rugby history, behind NSW Waratah Alistair Baxter on 121.

As well as three Test caps Henderson made 70 appearances for the Brumbies and eight for the Western Force before joining Melbourne for its inaugural 2011 season.

Rebels coach Damien Hill described Henderson as one of the Rebels' best in 2013, both on and off the rugby paddock.

"Nic has been an integral part of this club from the outset," said Hill.

"He will leave a strong legacy with this young playing group."
