Foley: first super coach to be sacked for winning matches

"However, Foley at the Western Force could, perversely, become the first Super coach to be sacked for actually winning matches. Incredibly, the Force have taken coach-killing plays and sequenced them into a winning template of sorts (it relies on a high opposition error count). The great fear, however, is the Force will one season win enough matches playing Frankenrugby to make it all the way to the final only to be greeted by an empty stadium. "

I think Foley was the coach we needed. I do admit that I said in a previous post somewhere that I would be loathe to touch him due to his Waratahs connection but I take that back. Looking forward to what he can do with the team for the next season

8Hooray for an Australian rugby blog!

Geez Rajiv, you must be watching a different competition to the rest of us. The Force faithful have watched some fantastic nail-biting games. (We all loved the rapid-recycle Brumbies game of 10 years ago, it only works if the opposition don't actually contest the rucks). The whole game cannot be razzle and dazzle. People who love the game also love Tessman side-stepping Nonu and Rico Gear. They love Chris Alcock shuddering the bones of a few Crusaders. Kyle Godwin is a future superstar and Wallaby 10. The Honey Badger may well get some "meat" against the Lions. Frankenrugby? How about Frankenjournalism???? Foley has the blue army on the march, the attack is developing, look out!

2@liberte92 - Thanks Liberte. Agree, Kyle someone to watch - big future indeed. And looking forward to Honey Badger getting some meat too. Rajiv

7@liberte92 - absolutely! What is the author on about with the statements on "Frankenrugby" and "empty stadium"?
The Force have been permanently "building for the future" since they formed, but this season they have been great to watch (mostly), attract a great crowd, and yet still get ignored on Foxtel Rugby HQ and slated in bollocks articles like this.

I just take comfort in our bums on seats vs home crowds for other teams. people can say what they want about our win-loss record, but we often trump Tahs home crowds by 5,000-10,000!

only other thing i read in the comments that seemed to have a theme and thats how arrogant kiwi rugby fans seem to be... how many games have their teams won against the Aussies this year? is it something like 11/3? How many of their rugby stars in their super franchises are "naturalised".

If you look up the journalist (Rajiv Maharaj) on the Guardian site it says he's based in Melbourne, so don't expect any decent articles on the Force from that source!

Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.

    The coach has been awesome

    The mongrel is back

he will cull some dead wood and attract some genuine match winners.

The defensive set up is magnificent. The continuity and phase building is awesome.

The backline is toilet. He knows it. He will fix it too

not talking it up, i give credit where its due, i havent been impressed with the kiwi S15 teams this year apart from maybe the blues, who have made a big turn around. but most kiwi fans always seem to be able to find the worst in other teams before they are willing to praise even when they are throwing bricks in glass houses...

Don't panic Westie, Deans won't convert a creditable super performance against Kiwi teams into Bledisloe success, he'll pick a couple of new faces to add to the same old tired formula and we'll get spanked again.
