Nedlands has comfortably accounted for Palmyra in round two of the Pindan Premier Grade competition at Tompkins Park, running out 32-point victors, 43-11.

Three first half tries set up the victory for the visitors, with another three in the second half serving as a percentage booster for last year’s Grand Finalists.

The Neddies’ forward pack was superb despite the loss of Travis Church to a calf injury in the warm up and coach Tony Ball’s decision to move Fred Tuua from fly half to full back proved to be effective with the strong ball runner benefiting from continual opportunity to run the ball in space.

While the team put on an impressive display across the field, Ball was particularly happy with his forwards’ efforts throughout the day.

“We set ourselves the goal to improve after last week’s performance at the set piece and our forwards today were huge for us,” Ball said.

“We lost a couple of guys early so for our tight five to stand up against what was a very good opposition pack is really pleasing, its early in the season so there are definitely things we can improve, but we’re very happy with today’s effort.”

Pally boss Dave Ball was disappointed despite an improved second half showing from his chargers.

“You can’t give teams like Nedlands a 20 point head start, simply, they were a lot better than us today and you can’t really argue with that,” Dave Ball said.

“It’s always disappointing to lose but we’ll look at the tape and see where we need to improve, intensity really stood out today, they were just a bit more desperate on the ball,” he said.

Two Sam Jurisich penalty goals were all Palmyra had to show for the first 40 minutes of rugby as Nedlands dominated the play. Davis Tavita was faultless from the kicking tee, landing an early penalty goal, while second rower Callum Sauer, centre Cam Crowley and prop Joe Ritchie all crashed over the chalk for Nedlands.

The trend continued in the second half when Ryan McLeod ran on to a short ball from a drifting Michael Ruru off a set piece; the conversion from straight in front elementary for Tavita.

When Ben Titoko dived over in the corner for his side’s fifth major it was well and truly party time for the men from The Foreshore, the missed conversion being the only black mark on Neddies’ record for the day.

Winger Steven Cullingworth grabbed a consolation try for Pally but it mattered little, with yet another Nedlands try rounding out the day and leaving the final score at 43-11.

Elsewhere an improved Kalamunda defeated Perth Bayswater 32 – 8 while UWA got its season back on track with a 34 – 21 win over Rockingham.

Associates grabbed its second five-point win in as many weeks with a 15 – 20 victory over newly located Wests Scarborough, while at Harvey field Cottesloe continued an impressive start to the season, demolishing Wanneroo 76 – 0.
