There are countless reviews online, all of them raving about the build quality etc.
The key selling points for this phone (for me) are that it has an IR (infra-red) blaster, which can be used to change “any tv” (brilliant down the pub when the landlord puts the AFL on halfway through a ruggers game!!) – the camera allows this cool editing feature, where you take a series of shots, and can edit out the dickhead in the background, or even take a face from photo A and replace photo B where they were blinking or blurred… its super smart!
Outside that, smart phones are smart phones. They all gather emails, send texts and play words with friends just as well as each other, these days it comes down to the plan more than the phone!
Yeah Boog, I was going to mention this. Outstanding build quality - "Carved out of a solid block of aluminum,". I'm waiting on the new Iphone to come out in a few months and will decide then, but I do like the look of the HTC one.

Samsung galaxy SII for me as well. it was my first "smartphone" as I was pretty late to the bandwagon. before that all I thought I needed a phone for was to call or message, that's it.

now I am not quite sure how I managed without it. I would likely stick with android next time round, as I have seen some of the limitations of the apple products.

I used to have an massive amount of hate for the iPhone and Apple in general but the current phone I have is the most reliable phone I've had in years minus recpetion dramas because I'm with Vodafail

Actually if I had any advice for someone getting a new phone, do it with any company that isn't Vodafone!!

At this stage I would be most likely to upgrade to the next varient of the iPhone, be it Iphone 6 or 5s as Zed mentioned

These days the major battle seems to be IOS vs Android

I've read similar stuff but whether it's true only time will tell!

Cheaper variants rumoured to be targeting China and India in most of the stuff I've read

Because one of the alternatives is that clusterfuck telstra.
If I didn't have to travel to the middle of nowhere - seriously the town I was in on Tuesday wasn't on the map - I'd never be with them.

I was 3 mobile for 8 years before the merge with Vodafone with not one problem

Since the merge and being put onto a purely Vodafone service I have had nothing but problems with reception. Was offered a shiny new phone for the swap and with 12 months to go on my contract and phone that I was not happy with was probably too eager to take it.

Probably heading back to Telstra in October when my current contract runs out

yeah, my current (for 2 more weeks) phone is the HTC Legend, a great little phone, with the same "single block of Aluminium" design.

this phone is goddamned tough! Ive dropped it so many times, and not a drama. Its starting to spaz out a little bit in old age, and as mentioned, on Vodafail, its constantly being abused for not working, but in all honesty its not the phones fault!

I've had a Nokia Lumia 920 for about 6 months now. It's been a great phone.

I have a bit of an old clunker Galaxy S with about 3 months left of a 2yr plan. Still works fine.
One of the things I like about it is the ability to carry a few spare batteries to swap out. Great when you're away from home and can't plug in to re-charge any old time.

A lot of the newer phones have built-in batteries? Correct?

Yep, But most chargers are USB at some point before the socket. Which is handy with computers everywhere. And all newer TV's have USB ports which you can plug into for some juice, cars have them too. So it's pretty hard to run out of battery if you have a USB charger
