A few scores to be settled in the Wanneroo / Joondalup and the Rocky / Mandurah games!

Perhaps I'm underestimating the 'district' clubs, but I would imagine there are going to be some serious shellackings here. Most clubs will be able to field almost first grade strength sides for this game despite the Rd 18 ruling what with juniors coming up, new recruits, players returning from injury etc. And I thought this new comp was supposed to benefit the 'district' clubs. I'm not sure getting a good flogging is going to be of much benefit. Hopefully they'll be competitive and prove me wrong

Zed, I'll tell you exactly what is going to happen.

Premier Clubs are not going to take this seriously. They will not risk injury to their Premier and 2nd grade players so will play a mixed 3rds / 4ths /20's combination so they can be seen to have fulfilled their duty.

Scores will be relatively even and district clubs may even win a game or two.

What will be gained from this? You tell me.

PS I don't agree with the above policy but I'm just telling you what the tea leaves are telling me.

To be honest I wouldn't think the district teams would want to be playing in this competition either... They don't have the same depth as premier clubs and will be wanting to win their actual competition more than this made up "Cup". The only good thing about playing a mid week game is a lighter training load, but the body is still hurting the same if not more afterwards. Silly idea in my opinion...

Yeah I guess that's the likely scenario.

Or a good opportunity for players too old for colts and not at 1st/2nd grade level physically to stay together as a team and then filter through the lower grades on the saturday.

They asked for the bloody thing. In fact they wanted more games, and RugbyWA was going to give them more until a couple of clubs stood up and said NO!
Of course the senior clubs who privately had grizzled about it were noticable by their silence when it came to a public vote.

And I thought this new comp was supposed to benefit the 'district' clubs.

    Exactly. Say no more

I have no inside knowledge, but might it not be the case that what RugbyWA had originally proposed ro get Joondalup off their backs was discussed with the Premier clubs behind closed doors and they negotiated the original proposal down to a nothing comp and then agreed to let it pass?

Maybe Wanneroo and Perth who did all the squealing weren't in the Purple Circle (or more likely didn't show up again) and were therefore out of the loop?

Wanneroo and Bayswater very vocal at this meeting.
The Purple circle clubs didnt even attend which shows how much respect they have for the idea but dont hear them complaining so must except the idea and will use as a new tool in recruitment of players capable of playing a higher standard of rugby.
We are looking to develop our code and must move forward with new vision and ideas but this one is about as jaded as the committee that come up with it

I would suggest that the Championship clubs are looking forward to pitting their wits against some Prem clubs, to see how they're travelling, to see how far away they really are ... & get a few bucks over the bar midweek before the Easter break.
What's wrong with more rugby, more bar takings, different opposition, more club interaction .... and don't underestimate the Prem clubs - they'll take their reputations seriously !

Something actually being done for the development of the standard of the Championship clubs and gives the Championship crack at the Premier clubs for bragging rights.
Kev is right. What's wrong with more rugby, more bar takings, different opposition, more club interaction...
If you don't like it .... stay home.
