Spoke to Salesi Manu at the Force Family Day and he was looking forward to this fixture.

Also had a chat to Sam Norton Knight and sounded like he was still a week away from being fit, therefore in main squad Tupou or Dellit probably start at full back.

Emirates Western Force A has named nine players with Super Rugby experience to take on Samoa A in their IRB Pacific Rugby Cup fixture at Ballymore in Brisbane tomorrow.

The Force A side includes hooker Ben Whittaker, who will make his first rugby appearance for 2013 after being sidelined with a foot injury. Whittaker will pack down alongside Emirates Western Force teammates Kieran Longbottom and Salesi Manu.

Emirates Western Force back-rower Locky McCaffrey will again captain the side after leading them to a 23-16 win over Rebel Rising in their last outing in Melbourne last month.

    EMIRATES WESTERN FORCE MEDIA RELEASE
    Tuesday, 12 March 2013

FORCE A CLAIM STRONG WIN OVER SAMOA A

Emirates Western Force A has recorded a convincing 34-11 win over Samoa A in their IRB Pacific Rugby Cup fixture in Brisbane this afternoon.

The Western Australian side held the lion’s share of possession for the match, converting it into a five-tries-to-one victory.

In a miserly defensive effort, Force A repelled the Samoan attack for the majority of the game, conceding a single try in the final minute of the game.

Emirates Western Force prop Kieran Longbottom turned in a powerful scrummaging performance combined with a high work rate around the field, while Bankwest Academy’s Ryan Hodson was highly involved from the back row. Force A were also well served by their two scrumhalves, with Chris Eaton opening the scoring through his side’s first try before replacement Ryan Louwrens continued the pressure through his service from the base of the ruck.

Force A Coach Dwayne Nestor said he was pleased with the side’s ability to build on their 23-16 win over Rebel Rising in Melbourne last month.

“The way they worked hard throughout the game earned them a lot of respect,” he said. “Our work in the middle of the field and our ability to get go-forward was significantly improved from our performance against the Rebel Rising.

“One of our focuses was to work hard and be patient to allow the results to come from that, so that attitude the boys had was fantastic.”

Eaton opened the scoring on the back of sustained pressure on the Samoan line with rampaging lock Rory Walton adding a try of his own later in the half. Flyhalf Sam Christie added both conversions and a penalty for a 17-6 lead at the half-time break.

Emirates Western Force A kicked on in the second term with tries to hooker Ben Whittaker and fullback Ed Stubbs, and Bankwest Academy back-rower Richard Hardwick.

Samoa A claimed a consolation try with 45 seconds on the clock but couldn’t add the conversion with the final score remaining 34-11.
