A Swiss football player got more than he bargained for after a wild animal ran onto the pitch during a top-flight game between Thun and FC Zurich.

The weasel-kind animal, called a marten, briefly held up play in the Swiss Super League clash before temprarily disappearing into the stands.

After running around the stands and in between the legs of supporters, the marten reappeared.

With the game delayed, Zurich defender Loris Benito decided to take action, and dived and grabbed the marten - only to be bitten on the finger.

Eventually Zurich goalkeeper Davide Da Costa showed the outfield players how to handle the creature and got the animal off the field.

Zurich won the game 4-0.
