    NZ winger Guildford under investigation

    AAP
    January 20, 2013, 6:07 pm

Troubled All Blacks and Crusaders winger Zac Guildford is again facing misconduct proceedings.

All Blacks and Crusaders wing Zac Guildford has voluntarily stood down from involvement with the Crusaders after a late-night incident in Christchurch.

New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew says both the NZRU and the Crusaders were "very disappointed" to learn of the incident that happened after Guildford, 23, attended a private house party earlier this month.

"As a result, the NZRU has initiated misconduct proceedings against Zac," he said.

"We will be meeting with Zac and his representative in the following week to discuss the matter, and next steps.

Guildford had previously been called before the NZRU three times in 18 months on alcohol-related issues.

His misconduct kept him out of the Crusaders pre-season matches and their first Super Rugby match last year.

He was recalled to the All Blacks team in May last year, replacing an injured Richard Kahui ahead of the three-Test series against Ireland.

Guildford will sign for the rebels next year, so his misdemeanours can be hidden behind those from a couple of high profile wallabies

Never ceases to amaze me the folly of professional sports people they are doing something anyone of us would love to do and yet they forget the privileged position in which they find themselves in.

I know some may say but he is only young ect ect but sportsmen and women are council and have extensive time put into them explaining what is expected of them both on and off the sporting field and how to conduct themselves.

Bottom line it is very sad as he is such a fantastic talent I hope for his sake and for rugby as a whole he books his ideas up and can resume his career truly a joy to watch

Without knowing exactly what "misconduct" has occured it is hard to judge the bloke one way or the other.

Lots of times we hear these sorts of reports and it turns out to be something rather trivial. Considering he has stepped down then I assume it is serious. I look forward to a couple of weeks of media speculation.

Maybe his Cuz will move there too. If he doesn't get knocked into next year in the boxing ring. That could test his new found mental toughness.

Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.

A bit sad, really. Guildford is obviously a really talented guy, but obviously a really troubled one too.

We cherish their risk taking, daring, novelty and lack of thought for physical consequences on the field - sadly some are unable to just leave that stuff on the field...
