Back in June when a little contingent of InnFORCEers heading to Adelaide to enjoy the S.A. hospitality we met a guy called Brian at the Strathmore Hotel.
He runs Destination World Travel and here is a quick brief on what they do.
Brian loved our tour ball, the idea of the InnFORCEer tours and couldn't believe we'd all flown over to Adelaide to watch the Western Force take on their Presidents XV.We operate and escort group tours all over the world and apart from normal tourist activities, we encourage our clients, whenever possible, to take time out to visit a school or orphanage where we know our visits can have an impact especially on the lives of the children. Without exception our clients are always surprised at how much they get out of the experience and leave humbled by the reception received by the staff and pupils.
We recommend our clients (if they want to) use available space in their luggage to provide supplies to communities we might visit. For just over 2.5 kilos they could bring 6 deflated soccer or rugby balls with an inflation device. Often we bring school supplies, books, toys or simple medical supplies such as bandaids etc too.
So in a nutshell it’s not something that most travel agents do, but we feel we are blessed with the opportunity to give something back to local communities when we can and in turn our clients leave with a very special experience in addition to seeing the country.
TIF and I talked to Brian and decided on behalf of TWF and JB O'Reilly's we would donate half a dozen of the rugby balls (which some of you have purchased from Coach) to the schools he was going to visit in August a few weeks later.
This morning I received an email from Brian thanking the TWF and JB's;
This is what separates The InnFORCEers from every other supporters group! Maybe oneday one of the kids will be playing for theHi Greg,
Sorry it’s taken so long to send you these photos, but it’s been hectic since we got back.
The schools in Kenya were closed so we decided to split the balls and give some to a school in Tanzania and the others in Botswana.
We gave the schools your email address but do not hold hope as they do not have Internet and the teachers were not computer literate.
Both schools thanked us greatly as they all liked ball games and the balls they had were flat and very old.
I did enjoy spending time playing with the kids and they reciprocated with both laughter and enjoyment.
I’ll send the photos in several separate emails : Pictures is Karatu Primary School in Arusha, Tanzania and Mabele Primary School in Chobe, Botswana.
Many thanks again for the donation.
Regards,
Brian
