Pretty sure it is only Australia has a salary cap. The Kiwi teams can do what they like.

Here's the article I read which states each NZ franchise has 3.5 million to spend across a 30 man squad. I think the Southland Times may have it wrong.

an interesting article re Nonu signing - seems he isn't being paid as much as he could be getting elsewhere due to Thorn being signed first:

Every contract we have is signed off by (the NZRU) because it's their money

in 2010, the Highlanders had about $1 million less to spend on players than other New Zealand franchises

They are the EWF of NZ Rugby?? They have been up until this year anyway.

Hopefully the fortunes of both are at the bottom of the J Curve.
