The ARU had enough input into RG initial appointment to the Force as it was.

The New Zealand Rugby Blue Print for Success

What NZ are doing better is disseminating from the top level the strategies and skills that are required at the highest level - the NZRU having more "say" to the S15 franchise coaches i.e this is how we want the game played and players skilled up to do....and also in turn this goes down to the ITM level and U20's etc so that all of NZ rugby is on the same page and striving for the same things (example - the skill of holding up the tackled player so it becomes a maul - the AB's are starting to perfect it, when I watch the ITM teams, they're doing it - so they're all training towards the same ends. This means when someone steps up to the next level they understand whats required i.e. thats the "depth" of NZ rugby that they can bring in a replacement and he slots straight in. Aussie rugby doesnt have that vertical skill development because each level is autonomous, jealously guards their independence and sings to the tune of their coaches at each level. Whereas NZ rugby - and NZRFU hands out the $ to each level - all have the same end goal i.e. the top 15 team be the best in the Comp.

The role that graham Henry has (asisde from Auckland skills manager or something similar) is as the S15 Coaches Development Manager - effectively disseminating what the skills and strategies they're looking for at the top level, and how they should coach these skills. Why do you think someone of Wayne Smiths pedigree would be assistant coach for the Chiefs? Because they've got almost all of the ABs 1st or 2nd string backs and the RU wants them developing along similar lines to what they want at top level. And also why Steve Hansen stepped in as coach and it was buiness as usual - the coaches also are on the same page and can step up no problem

Its a grand Idea... the issue is the ARU have no one to disseminate the Wallaby plan because there is none and no one who has a modicum of credibility to deliver it if there was.... COUP TIME...
