    Nick Mallett turns down Waratahs

A team of Alan Gaffney and Michael Cheika appears set to occupy the Waratahs' coaches box after former Springbok and Italy coach Nick Mallett turned down an approach from NSW.

Mallett was on a hit list of targets to replace Michael Foley, but he knocked back the Tahs because of television commitments.

Gaffney has popular support with the board and players and is already locked in for a senior coaching role. Exactly what title will come down to whether Cheika returns.

I'm interested in seeing if Cheika can coach if he gets the Tards gig. Everywhere he's had success has had a playing talent advantage ie Leinster, Randwick. At his last gig they had a decent squad backed by millionaire's yet missed the final. He was also too scared to take on the Force job because he thought he probably didn't have a squad capable of making him look good. A good coach gets results with an average squad (Jake White, McKenzie). A shit coach looks for the strong squad thats not quite performing and tries to make a name for himself (Graham). And a great coach in waiting is someone who is willing to try and turn a team around from scratch (Foley (I hope)).

There are a couple of things that will be made clear with Foley next year.

1 was Link handcuffed by Tah Stink and unable to coach properly or was it just that the players fit him better in Queensland

2 are the problems at NSW being repeated by RWA

If foley doesn't do a better job with us than he did with them this year, I think we'll have our answers and know whether to sack the board or not.

Who has the power to sack the Board, and what process needs to be followed?

Interesting that the selection process for the tahs coach isn't being touted as a disastrous clusterf#Łk but a careful methodical process to find the best candidate.

Foley is a better option for the Force because he has first hand knowledge about up and coming players. Chieka has been out of the Australian system too long.

    Sucks to be the Tahs.

Have they heard of this guy David Nucifora? Apparently he can coach. (sic)

Seriously, who would want the Tahs job anyway? With 2 controlling bodies running rugby in NSW there would be no end to the political shitfights.
If anyone's wondering yes the NSWRU has a board separate from the Waratahs board. Not to mention the ARU .....

I know this is off on a tangent and I should never mention football (the devil's work and children playing with a round ball should be locked in a closet until they know better) but this reminded me of a classic stuff up. Picture the scene- football world cup in France, Scotland getting well hammered in the qualifying round as usual (team comes home before the postcards etc...). Gordon McQueen, famous ex Scottish football player and trying his hand as a commentator, comes out with the following gem in a moment of unchecked frustration:

"If I knew the french word for deja vu this would be it"

Funny as old buggery for us well beated Scots back then
