    Michael Foley

    With the current speculation from our favourite East Coast reporters that Michael Foley is about to;

    a) resign from the position as Coach of the Tah-ds, and

    b) accept the offer from RugbyWA as Head Coach of our Western Force.

    I have decided to follow the advice from my good mate REX of "Always looking at the bright side of life" and as I said to Snob the other day on this forum - you gotta look at the glass being half full of Red Wine.

    If A and B are true and correct, and lets face it. We wont know until we get a Media Release from RugbyWA. But if they are true I would like to be the first to welcome Mr Foley with open arms.

    Michael Foley has the chance to pick up the pieces and create a Rugby Team that deserves to belong to such a great State. He has the opportunity to change some attitudes that I believe are a carry over from the days of John Mitchell and change our draws and one - five point losses in to one - five point wins. (for those not keeping count - there were 5 of them in the 2012 season). He also has the opportunity of changing the game plan of always kicking for points when we receive a penalty for always kicking for the attacking line-out which we have been doing for the last 2 years. A carry over from previous Coach Richard Graham.

    Also Michael Foley is in a fortunate position of having our new style of play written for him, It was written by a great young player and member of TWF - PRUC, who wrote - "An open style of game, with lots of width moving the opposition around. WA doesn't have the size of a South African or Kiwi pack to bash their way through opponents. It means that we have to play smarter be more efficient in what we do. For set piece a side that isnt as big needs to be more technical in a scrum working as a full 8 and in line-outs movement across the ground. With the AFL back ground kicking should be accurate, used as a tool to put us in a position to attack - not as our attack weapon. The game plan requires WA to be fitter then the opposition so we can run them around the park and off their feet. The most important part of a WA style is to have a crack - I have yet to play in a team that doesn't back their running rugby - with the Polynesian 7s mentality to exploit opposition when they least expect it. Obviously with this approach you need to be prepared for turnover inside our 40m line. Finally its discipline - each team member needs to know that each player has their back in defence or in attack, this will see us give away few penalties/bad choices as the trust amongst team mates to be their will be automatic

    WA Style
    Fast, Non-stop, Running, Efficient, Trust"

    Mr Foley - according to some you come to Perth with a club not in Crisis (glass is still half full) but in desperate need of some results. That starts with some smart recruiting. We hope that you take a good hard look at our local talent before you pay the mega bucks for someone who is just going to complain about being to far away from their mummy and leave in a couple of years.

    The Western Force is not just a Rugby Union Team that is part of Super Rugby. To the Sea-Of-Blue it is a way of life. The Sea-Of-Blue is a great group of supporters who will continue to back their team through thick and thin - and lets be honest for just a second here there has been a whole lot of thin over the last 7 years.

    Mr Foley I hope you see this new contract as an opportunity for greatness and that you grab it both hands. Your squad, and its very large band of merry supporters are here and waiting for you to lead the charge. Best of luck to you Sir.
