I know professionalism changes things I'm just asking how much different is it from the unpaid olympic sports?
WA road traffic congestion - that's where our additional gym time is spent.

In NZ or ova east a player can work full time, S & C, Rugby Train and be back parked at the family home with less than 35mins on the road.

Player pool and genetics would also play its part I'd suggest.

Traffic has changed in Perth since the early nineties, I'll grant you that.
One of the reasons that rowing has such a low participation rate is that training did take up so much time. Only the dedicated/masochistic stayed in the sport.

apples n oranges if comparing the two sports, however its proven in the UK n NZ that schools 1st & 2nd XV's are stronger when players are participating in the rowing program as well.

Gosh - I would never have thought road congestion here was anything like that of Sydney or Brisbane! I have learnt something today. Only takes me 20-30 mins to get anywhere I need to get in Perth so I must be very lucky :-)

That Bump Key must also save time on finding a parking spot, walking to your distant car etc.
Maybe we should all get one.

To add to this for Exile, the educated perception is as follows:

WA players do have the skill set to match Eastern States, we can read the game, catch and pass as well, tackle, kick, defend, scrummage to the equal of E.S.

We lack bulk for a collision sport.

If you compare WA club players with ES club players as a group you will see our strength and conditioning, body fat, skin fold etc. waaay below ES clubs.

    why?

Cos they can afford to pay their players to spend 4 days a week in a gym and bulk up.
A lot of guys I no or no about with size either bugger off to the mines or back over east or NZ as they realise quickly the pathway into the WA rugby team is via eastern states club rugby not WA.

Ever considered that a lot of the guys recruited to WA come in the twilight of their careers as rugby players, and are happy to play in a competition they are still competent in, without having to train so hard?

Or that they come for the job opportunities as the primary concern, and rugby just a happy social after thought?

Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.
