Kobe Bryant reckons current Dream Team would beat the original

Yeah just say that you'd beat the greatest sports team of all time why don't you...

I think Michael Jordan summed it up best: "For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done."

I'm not sure the words 'Kobe Bryant' and 'smart' should ever be used in the same sentence, unless there's a negative in there somewhere, too.

Why do they even let professional athletes, such as basketballers and tennis players, to compete at the olympics?

The only way these two are in the same breath is:

1992 Dream Team is it !!

2012 Dreamer Team... you can only dream to be as good as the 1992 Team.
(yeah beating Brazil who aren't known for there BBall by 11 points shows for itself)

So as to move away from the situation where the only people that could compete at the Olympics were those who were well-healed enough, or had the backing of a government that was willing to subsidise them enough, to be able to put time away to play sport without worrying about how they were going to make a living.

I mean... so that they can play rugby in 2016...

I'm not a fan of any sport being at the Olympics where winning the gold medal doesn't count as the pinnacle of the sport.

Athletics, swimming, gymnastics, badminton, rowing, archery, sailing, table tennis, etc. Fine.

Tennis, basketball and football can sling their hook, or act like boxing and wrestling be open for amateurs only.

The Olympic Games lost all credibility when live pigeon shooting was cast aside.

How does rugby fit in to all of that? They're getting rid of the Rugby World Cup Sevens after next year, so the Olympics will be the pinnacle of the 7-a-side game, but the 15-a-side Rugby World Cup will still be the more important tournament from a rugby point of view.

If the pinnacle of Rugby 7s is the Olympics, then they can stay in, but it is one of the potentially dodgy sports!

You dont think that they had Rednecks in the car park with shotguns after they released the white doves at Atlanta.

To quote Jeff Foxworthy - "Greetings Y'all and welcome to those foreigners from other countries and god have mercy on the butt kicking you are about to receive." (or something like that)
