STAYING: Queensland and Wallabies halfback Will Genia is to re-sign with the Reds for next season
CHAMPION halfback Will Genia has agreed to re-sign with the Queensland Reds after an urgent round of talks brokered a new two-year deal.

The news will come as both a relief and a soaring endorsement that Queensland rugby can keep its stars after is was announced last Saturday night Genia would accept a rich offer from the Western Force to join them in 2013.

The Queensland Rugby Union released a statement on Saturday night that Genia was gone and the playmaker himself had indicated he would not be staying in Queensland.

Perth sources went wild with chatter about Genia's imminent arrival.

Re-opened negotiations with the QRU have proved fruitful and the six-season Reds halfback can now focus on the run-in to the Super 15 finals which starts with the crunch clash with the Crusaders in Christchurch on Sunday.

Genia will front a media conference at Ballymore this morning to annouince his decision.

This has all been deliberate by the QRU.
It was QRU that forced Genia to make a decision. When he made that choice, that information was deliberately leaked by QRU and Tim Horan to the media and public. Genia becomes public enemy number 1 and caves in to public pressure and does an about face under QRU's terms.
Cant wait for this commission with Cosgrove and arbib is complete. Hopefully the ARU gets a major overhaul and starts to look out for the interests of all union members and not just Queensland and NSW. The 2011 Title has made QRU and even uglier beast then NSWRU.
If the Force is ever to fold one day, I will flatly refuse to suupport the Wallabies ever again.

Well, that was a debacle.
While it is disappointing in some respects, I take comfort in other ways ie we have paid big dollars for big names before and it did little for our long term success.
I think I would rather go the Brumbies way and develop a team of younger unknowns.

The thing that pisses me off the most is that this sort of mid-season sh-t detracts from the enjoyment of the Super 15 competition.

I'm actually ok with this news, it's a helluva lot better than having him for 600 k, which is the number that was being thrown around.
Don't think tim horan was trying to do any favlurs, he's so red he shits roses. It was all a carefully managed media stunt to pull the carpet from underneath Genia at yhe negotiating table. Hope hes happy playing for arseholes
