Angry Soccer to Take over at Palmyra?

Seems a local soccer club has their eye on Tompkins Park and have got their mates at council to get the ball rolling for them. If you're out that way or want to help stop this injustice before it starts, get down there and voice your concerns.

The Club believes this is an extremely important meeting where our members views can be heard by the City of Melville to ensure that the facility is not negatively impacted by an influx of soccer teams to the grounds that will severly impact on our current usage patterns and generate larger parking problems than exist already today.

Below is a copy of the communication set to the club discussing the Council's agenda for the Tompkins Park facility.

To this end the SGL Consulting Group, a sport, recreation, leisure and tourism planning consultancy, have been commissioned to develop the plan.

The report will provide future direction for the development of Tompkins Park Reserve and will provide a Concept Plan that reflects the needs of the sporting and recreational use of the area, whilst providing optimum design to achieve social, environmental and financial benefits to the community. The Consultants have been asked to complete the report based on the following objectives:

    • To develop a site concept plan for Tompkins Park Reserve.
    • To investigate and recommend the optimal mix of facilities to accommodate existing and potential future tenants according to the best practice principles of shared use and collocation and to the needs of sporting clubs consistent with previous reporting.
    • To identify funding strategies to limit, if not eliminate the need to fund any developments from Council rates.

An important component of the plan's development is consultation with all stakeholders. As such the Consultant will be in contact with your club in the near future to gather as much information regarding current use, future requirements and any other projects.
It is therefore very important that our members turn up and be aware of the implications of any changes and be able to voice our concerns at the earliest possible time.

    Thank you

What's the problem, Wests have shared with the FA Boys for a few years (unhappily). For mine, I love the added skill of picking which is the soccer goal line, and the try line. Those blue and white lines at Rosalie, at last count Roodogs have the record of placing the ball over the soccer "try" line three times in one match at Wests, with Paly only a fortnight before doing it twice - it's something I think all clubs could incorporate, and use in training prior to playing Wests - and now Paly are obviously following the trend.

Mind you, there is another alternative, set up our own Peel Thunder style rugby team to act as a barrier to those round ballers - lets see if we can ask for about 2million dollars a season from the Force, and we'll all man the barricades in our Masonic Regalia and Teutonic Knight outfits - you want passion!.
