    Use the pain to prepare

Western Force captain David Pocock said the club must move on quickly from the heartbreak of a two point loss to the Brumbies in Canberra but not forget the pain as they prepare for a clash against the reigning champion Reds in Brisbane.

Pocock, a proud competitor, said while there was disappointment in the round one result he was upbeat about the club’s prospects and the capacity to add to their game all round game.

“I think we can take a lot of positives out of the game and we’ll learn from what happened out there, move forward and be better next week,” Pocock said.

“The result indicated however that there were various aspects of the game where we fell short and we’ll need to work on those and to improve for next week.

“Front-foot ball is so important and we tried to generate that at much as possible. When we did we managed to go through them and that was positive,” Pocock said.

While there are no easy games in Super Rugby, Pocock said matching up against the Reds after their title winning efforts last season will be a significant challenge but one the West Australian’s were relishing.

Last year the Emirates Western Force pushed the impressive Queenslanders hard in both their encounters, including a one point loss at Suncorp Stadium, and will be determined to turn the tables on those outcomes.

“We saw the Reds a few weeks ago in the trial game and they’re going to again be a really tough side this season,” Pocock said.

“Australian derbies are always hard fought games with plenty of physicality. It’s the sort of challenge you want and one that we'll be looking forward to facing head on.”

    Every team is beatable

We will have to ask questions of their defence and put some pressure on them

Flat footed flops on the edge of the ruck won't win it for us

Neither will shuffling it the same way to straight running backs, there's no Quade Cooper to run at, and we'll need runners to cross behind the ball to achieve anything. We'll also need to give our big wingers plenty of looks at the ball and get them carrying early.

It's doable, but we need to do it right for 80 minutes.
