Correct me if I’m wrong but I think they did see this coming that’s why they are using to money generated from the Tax to implement cuts in existing tax areas and handouts to the community to counter act the rise in living cost.
The plan is to encourage big polluters to invest in clean energy which they will then in turn not be tax as their emissions will be cut.

Or we could go with The Libs and Tony Abbot’s plan to tax us and give the money to the Polluters as payment to make them reduce emissions. You chose… I know which one I would rather.

so they're using qantas as tax collecting agents to pass onto people tax cuts to help subsidise the cost increases associated with the tax increase, like air fares?

i just think this whole carbon tax / credit scenario is just going to make certain (clever) people very rich and not actually do much to reduce emissions?

They don’t want to tax anyone they want them to invest in Clean energy the tax is just away to make companys look at other option by saying "if you want to continue the way you are going ATM then we will charge you for it but if you want to look at other ways of doing business then we will reward you for it.

I'll admit i am obviously not up to speed on this, it confuses the hell out of me, but then Labor hasn't explained this very well, not to me at least

yes i get that .. a power station is a good example of that, however how does an airline do it, without buying new planes obviously, which not all airlines can afford. And even IF they do swap out the old planes for new ones, they just pass the cost onto us anyway..... don't they ?

Labor hasn't explained it well and Tony Abbott has pulled off a masterclass in whipping up a storm of fear. Big companies have followed suit because naturally they don't want anything threatening them profits, real or perceived. They will increase prices even if it is not necessary just so that they can blame in on the carbon tax, create an uproar, get Abbott elected and the tax rescinded. The bad news in all that is that we end up with Tony Abbott as prime minister. It's too horrible to think about.

I don't give a rats what colour is running the house, if they want to get serious about attempting to make a difference (debatable, but for another place) then they have to focus on both abatement and sequestration. You have 86% of this massive island as rangelands, all of which is in varying degrees of degradation compared to both the state we found it in (I refuse to refer to that as "pristine") and the potential of what it could be. We are doing works on 1.3 million acres to improve the sequestration capacity of the landscape, that is the scale you need to start talking in, not farting about with pissy little feel good community projects. They may raise awareness but they count for jot in the big picture.
As for this market business, all it has done is create yet another industry that is drawing on our natural asset with, I would suggest, a virtual nil net benefit.
Allow these companies to directly invest in abatement, mitigation and sequestration within their own footprint, then you will see change.
    The rest is theatre.

What is really embarrassing is how badly Germany outspends us in solar power development.

Interestingly, I was told by someone in the game that Mt Barker is more suited to solar than Meekatharra as it is "too hot" for the solar cells in the panels.
And in any case, Australia doesn't "do" manufacturing, we prefer to ship the base materials off to someone else to make the real money...

Yeah, the 40% sounds good, but there must be a fair bit left in it, or other companies wouldn't be queuing up to get hold of the stuff.

Do we export raw ors, or are we at least turning it into steel first?
