aluminium, we export alumina, and iron is just the ore.

i think that the power, staffing and safety cost is a lot higher in australia, than it is in say china, or korea (though japan has some steel mills, so i may be off). so those mills would be willing to pay more for the ore than aussies, and still make a decent profit.

I have seen that a lot of american aluminium plants we less and less profitable.

Interestingly, I was told by someone in the game that Mt Barker is more suited to solar than Meekatharra as it is "too hot" for the solar cells in the panels.

The too hot bit is true. Solar panels work best when the ambient temperature is below 30C I think. So, despite Perth being the sunniest city in Oz, it's not the best for solar power generation because it's too hot.

What is really embarrassing is how badly Germany outspends us in solar power development.

Not to mention China. ALL those new housing projects we hear about are decked out with solar panels. Many countries in Asia also have all new heavy trucks running on cng rather than deisel.

The bad news in all that is that we end up with Tony Abbott as prime minister. It's too horrible to think about.

I can't remember any pollie so willing to say or do ANYTHING to get into the lodge. His whole.strategy is 100% negativity. Even on many issues which his record is opposite to his current positions. He's a fraud and can't be trusted such an important job. If he had been given the mandate by the independants he'd be negotiating legislation with the Greens just as Gillard has been forced to do. Fortunately Tony Windsor & Co saw thruough his
disguise. I just hope everyone else does in time too. Or at the least, his own mob wake up grow a pair & get rid of him. The country can't afford him

abbot is, and always will be a VERY good opposition leader, all he needs to do is discredit the government and say he can do a better job. especially when gillard is such a fucking USELESS prime minister
he doesnt need to outline his policies. which is where he will come undone when/if the times comes for him to actually demonstrate how he will do a better job.

either way Australian politics is totally ruined. and will be for the next 10 years at least. if it ever comes back from the cesspool it has become.

the idea happy is to make large polluters smarter ways to work or better technology resulting in less pollution. Coles have come out and said we need to change, which is good it has got them thinking. But if they dont change they will be taxed and then will pass it on to the consumer, who will be compensated. Also some of the collected tax will be invested in green technology and green industries. Concerning who is collecting the tax it already happens with the GST and who brought that in. In the last few decades taxes all brought in by the libs ansett tax, gun buy back sugar tax yada yada yada. but it is going to be great in christchurch.
