On a side note - I have an involvement with a club rugby side based on a University Campus. This side has been part of the Sydney Subbies competition for 121 years now. We have 5 teams this year - 4 grades and a colts team. We can not get any money or support from the Campus. However the University Quidditch Club (membership 15) just received $2000.

For those of you that dont know - Quidditch is from the Harry Potter Books by JK Rowling and involves players running around with broomsticks between their legs.

Is the lack of uni money for a sporting team a policy issue or is it simply a decision by the uni not to offer funding even though they are allowed to?

the rugby team is a carry over from a college that was taken over by the university. The University it seems is trying to forget this campus's history and wants nothing to do with old names nor old sporting clubs.

But not a policy or any example of best practice by a higher learning institution (therefore useless as a meaningful challenge to the mighty UC Brumbies)

Really just sounds like poor relationship building by the rugby club with the Uni ... But Sydney Uni rugby club is well funded by old boys...

Perhaps the Brumbies deal will open Syd Uni's eyes...

The Waratahs probably couldn't form a relationship with Sydney Uni. It would put all the other teams in the Shute Shield a bit out of shape.

UC is funded by Fed money

There has been a deal with the government or a few departments won't have any new equipment this year

    An inquiry is warranted

The students will be hurling stale sandwiches at each other in the refectory when first semester finally starts.........great training for parliament........ food fights on campus......the embryo of the democratic system
