World Cup pain to drive Force

Australian flanker David Pocock believes the disappointment of the Wallabies' World Cup campaign can be used as motivation for the Western Force this season.

The Wallabies won the bronze medal, beating Wales after bowing out in the semifinals to eventual winners New Zealand.

Six Wallaby forwards - Pocock, Nathan Sharpe, Ben McCalman, Matt Hodgson, Salesi Ma'afu and Pek Cowan - have returned to Force training at a three-day camp in Margaret River.

Pocock said he was looking forward to the challenge of a new season.

"The World Cup was hugely disappointing," he said. "We know what it feels like to fall short now. It makes you hungry to win and experience success.

"We can use it as motivation and make sure it rubs off on the other guys.

"I'm looking forward to this season. It's a totally different challenge and we're fairly confident."

He was pleased that off-season recruiting had strengthened the pack.

"We have depth and there are also some big bodies in the back line which will be good," he said.

"The set piece has to be the foundation of your game and that was something we struggled to do last year. We'd put pressure on teams down in their half of the field and we'd have an overthrow, lose the line-out, turn over a scrum. It's very hard to win close games when you're doing that."

Hate to question the great man, but wouldn't that be the case for nine other teams as well?
